VW Delivery Delays

Anybody ordered a new Volkswagen lately? I'm wound up with the delays in delivery, it was initially 9 weeks, then 11, then 12 weeks now it's 14 weeks and counting. A collegue has ordered a new VW from a different dealer and is getting the same run around - can VW not keep up with orders?

Tax is up on my existing car/trade in, dealership won't give a definitive delivery date nor a courtesy car - thinking of telling them to stick it up their arse when it does arrive!

Which dealer did you buy it from? They don't all have the same direct relationship with VW, some are second teir dealerships.

The cynic in me makes me think that this is the "delay".

VW usually chase Registrations, even in June, so I doubt they are trying to shift stuff to 142 just because.

Haven't had any delay's on VW's this year so far. 11 Weeks for a Passat 2.0Tdi Highline Estate was about my longest wait, but there was a Jetta that took quite a while - someone else's order - ordered 17th December, delivered 9th May, but the Jetta is built in Mexico so shipping takes 6 weeks +.

    What model was it OP?

By waiting till july delivery you will save between E750 and a grand in depreciation ..

Very frustrating but In the long run 142 is better than 141 - maybe try contacting VW customer care to sound it out with them!

    Dealers LIE!!!!!
When you agreed to purchase/pay deposit etc. the dealer contacted VW and they gave him (the dealer) the delivery date for the vehicle. He (the dealer) probably thought he'd scare you off if he told you the actual date so he lied. They all do it.
Only one way to sort this/these situations. Walk away from the deal.

Did someone have one bad experience?

When the dealer ordered the car, they would have given a best estimate of when they thought the car would come in, based on how long previous orders have taken. For most cars, that's 8-12 weeks. Looks to me like 8 weeks was about the norm for whatever was ordered, at the time, and the dealer stuck another week on the end for wiggle room.

Usually, a few days after the order is placed, the car will get a production week, and this then confirms whether the initial estimate was correct. Generally takes 2-3 weeks from production to delivery, as most cars are built in Europe. Can be lucky and it comes within 2 weeks, but it all depends on when the boats are leaving and whether the car makes it just in time for a boat, or sits on the docks for a while until the next boat.

Other delays are caused by the transport company when cars arrive in to Ireland. Can take 3-4 days to get everything from the docks to the compound if it's a very full boat. They need to be checked in to the compound, loaded on to the system, then the dealer calls them off and has to wait for the transport company to move them from the docks to the dealership for PDI/Reg/Cleaning.

Cars not built in Europe take longer for shipping - it's possible in this case that the car is built in South America / South Africa but the dealer thought it was European Built.

I believe VWs are shipped out of the port of Emden in Northern Germany two ships deliver to Ireland, UK and Spain the ships are called the Emden and African Highway. Ships will either sail to Cork or Dublin, and then sail onto the port of Santander in Spain to drop off VWs and collect Seats. Ships to Ireland will either sail directly from Emden or stop off in Shearness in the UK. Keep an eye on the arrivals into Dublin and Cork ports.

Golf TDI Comfortline with metallic paint and sports pack. The dealer has fobbed me off with "well at least it will be a 142 plate". From reading a few owners forums it appears that VW are struggling to meet the demand for new the Golf 7 other than cars already in stock.

This is bang on. My audi arrived on the African highway. Tracked the boat on the marine traffic app. Knew my car had arrived before the dealer did, i called him to let him know 😀

Boat calls to Santander to pick up Q3s and Seat I think

Ordered mine in Nov, due next week, was told today that its due in on the ship this Sat, the only Car Carrier in this weekend is the MV City of Paris, owned by Nissan but I believe used for VW also, only thing is it hasn't been in any German port in the last two weeks... the Golf used to be built in Belgium but the Mk7 is being built in Wolfsberg.

VW's come in through NVD in Ringaskiddy :)

Not all of them I'd say though. NVD have a depot in Baldonnell as well. Plus there's no carrier due into the DWB, not even Grimaldi

They actually cart them by road to Baldonnell believe it or not and they come in with Grimaldi.

Really? Did not know that? Probably should have done seeing as I've unloaded cars from Grimaldi ships and dropped them in Dublin;) what about the ships actually operated by VAG?
I don't know so as there's one one carrier due into the country over next 5 or 6 days and that's the City of Paris into Dublin:/

    Me too :)

I couldn't say. I don't know too much about what happened outside of Gimalidi/ NVD/ Euromed.

Majority of the VW's come in to Dublin now, then over to Baldonnel. Ford and Opel are still going Cork / Ringaskiddy, but about the only ones now.

There's definitely some BMW's coming in from Mainland Europe this weekend (rather than via the UK), so may be on the same boat. There was a boat in earlier this week with VW's and other stuff, which will be working their way through the system.

May be more delays here if your car is on this transporter. This is Ballas, not mine.

Ordered a VW Polo 1.2 TSI 5 door in basic flash red on 11 October 2014. Still to be delivered over six months later. So much for the dealership telling me 8 to 12 weeks. My next car will be whatever they have in the showroom. Don't like being played for a fool. This will be my last VW - if it ever arrives...

Taking a car from stock takes the good out of buying imo.
Picking your options and your exact car arriving is the best part.
It is abit sh1t when these delays happen though.

I ordered a Polo Blue GT from a northside VW dealer, and was told initially 10 weeks.

It's just passed 12 weeks now, and I left the sales guy two messages last Fri, to which I have not yet received a response.

Reading some comments here, I don't seem to be the worst off however!

Obviously sorry to read about that long delay.....just wondering if you have traded in another car against the Polo and if so will the original trade in allowance still apply when you finally get the car?.
