    Hi Folks
Looking to buy a car on Donedeal,so i did a paid check with MYWHEELS,at the top it says Warning Red and gave the following reasons why

Warning Level - Red due to the following alerts being raised on this vehicle:

Tax expired more than 120 days
The vehicle has tax gap(s) between 30/09/2005-31/05/2007 (7 month(s) or more)
The vehicle has NCT gap(s) between 13/05/2010-13/05/2015 (2 year(s) or more)

Looking into it a bit more ..the car hasn't been taxed since 2010 but has just had the NCT done, also the new owner just purchased it last month

    Its a BMW 318 SE convertible 2004 51k miles going for €3700

Should i stay away from it?

    Hi,

Dont know alot about cars but today I viewed a gold convertible 2004 BMW 318 SE, private sale for €6000. Its on Done Deal as having 81k but I ran the vehicle check on motorcheck.ie and it had 115,873 Kms in Feb 2013. Might be an innocent mistake, mixing up km and miles.

According to motorcheck, value of this car is:

    Vehicle Condition Private Trade-in
    Excellent € 4,840 € 6,960
    Good € 4,190 € 6,310
    Poor € 3,750 € 5,870

I would be very cautious about it. Leaving a car sitting around untaxed that long would certainly tell me it needs a good service for a start.
Selling a car after only a few months doesn't sound good. Either car didn't get the love it needed and owner is blaming the car or the car is a lemon.

If you really have to have it bring an Aa mechanic and have it properly checked out. A good service might turn it into a faithful friend or be a waste of time.

If it were me I'd have a look in the flesh and see. If you think it looks ok get a mechanic to look it over.

Car was probably bought by someone with the view to selling it on again at a profit on the side.

Id take the tax gap with a pinch of salt, considering how many people seem to see tax as an optional payment these days. Same could be said of NCT, however Id want to know if it was a case that it was being tested and kept failing, or if the owner just didnt bother testing it at all.

Get it looked over and make sure that it has been serviced fully recently. If the service history is decent and you can verify that it has been looked after then it shouldnt be an issue really.

Could of simply been unused for a longtime or off the road due to a mechanical issue tell the seller you want YOUR mechanic to look over it for you if seller agrees get a good mechanic and tell him to give the car a good checking over for you just make sure you get a good mechanic not some family friend who thinks hes a machanic. If seller doesnt want to bring it to mechanic walk away.

The seller shouldn't have to bring it anywhere in fairness. If the buyer wants to get it checked out then they should be bringing the mechanic to the car.
