Asking for a raise

So basically I work in retail in a senior sales position. i've been in the company 3 years at this stage. i get on really well with my store manager and district manager, i bring a lot to the job, I work hard and constantly hit targets. i've a lot of responsibility - pretty much the same role as a store manager. however i'm on a very poor wage for the work i do - just slightly more than minimum wage by about 30cent. my district manager likes me and knows what i contribute and how enthusaistic and passionate i am about my role - do you think it's unreasonable to ask for a raise? i know it's a very "urrrgh" subject to bring up and that i'm lucky to have a job but at the moment there's no openings to progress to a higher title and I definiteley deserve a higher wage...nothing crazy i'd be happy with even an extra euro an hour. or should i just forget it?

Are you meeting or exceeding your targets?

What do you do that makes you stand out from others doing your role?

Exceeding...it's been pointed out to me by both my SM and DM that I am one of the top sales people in the entire company and each week I consistently smash the KPIs. I also coach the staff in my store on hitting targets (including staff in higher positions), giving them advice and ways to improve. My DM knows about this and encourages it and gives me praise and while I appreciate it - I feel like I deserve a bit more for all the effort I put in.

Do some work in your own time, and come up with five reasons why you should get a raise, then schedule some time with your manager to discuss it on that basis.

No problem at all, sounds like you've a good case to make :) Make sure all five reasons are areas you excel in/overperform compared to your peers!

Best of luck with it :)

Maybe they could hire you as assistant manager? If this role doesn't exist they could create it. I know you said there are no new openings so maybe create a brand new role

You're already a top performer and now you could make the managers job easier. While you currently coach the sales staff this role could put you in charge of them so you help even more

    Just a suggestion

Plenty of hotel duty managers and pub managers started out on the floor and worked their way up. You don't work in one buts it's an example

Definitely ask or you will not get one, always ask, it will be in their minds for the future at any rate. Simply put across your length there and how you are doing well in particular.
