    Looking for a new laptop.

Portability not a concern, will be used mostly at home.
Need it for the usual stuff & light programming and photo editing.
    Not into gaming.

I wouldn't say never you are just not talking current generation i5. I imagine the latest i3 would be better or as good as the earliest i5.

this one comes to about €640 8gb and i7. Any reason you need an i7 what will you use the computer for.

Fair point, what's a more realistic budget?

Trying to get something decent without breaking the bank.

There's a Lenovo with an i7, 4 gig ram and a dedicated graphics card (but no windows) for only 500e on amazon.de.
Absolutely crazy price compared to any shops over here.
Vat is a little higher here, so, with delivery, it might come to 530 or 540.
Plenty left over to buy another 4gb of ram, or even a copy of windOWs if you need it, although I bought a laptop from them recently without it and linux mint is a pleasure to use.

    Here's a thread on it in BA ;

    Thanks for this GreenMachine,

I want to get into photo editing and some light programming. I suppose I was looking for the i7 to future proof the purchase in some way.

But your comment about the latest i3 being as good as earliest i5 is making me rethink this.

Stupidly I thought an i7 would outperform an i3 or i5, I hadn't considered earlier of later versions at all.

Check the speeds as well. Otherwise you could end up buying a ULV model which has great performance to power ratio, but slower than a regular i7 or even i5.

Just as important OP ask if the laptop has been repaired: if it has what went wrong in the first place, what component was replaced and how long the laptop is running now with the repair.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread...

But what do you think of this i7 laptop for €700...a bit more than what I wanted to spend but think its worth the extra €100

    My own yardstick to apply:
Provided it's less than 2 years old.
And take in the look of it:
    Screen + keyboard

BobCobb, I've just purchased said laptop yesterday. have you purchased one too? How is it? I just read that there's a chance it'll come in the german(QWERTZ). Did this happen to you? I'll be using it for programming so it won't matter at all. Just out of curiosity. Does it come with QWERTZ?

EDIT: Sorry, just noticed your post above on the G510 thread and did a bit of research on the german layout.. seems easy to get used to, Very happy with the purchase, waiting on delivery now. I have a US layout gaming keyboard and got used to that very fast. Shouldn't be too difficult. Thanks for this BobCobb!

Hey guys, to any of you here whose bought the G510. Where are you located and how long does it take for them to deliver it?

Hi, I didn't get that laptop myself, I got a G500s from them. Mine has the QWERTZ keyboard alright which is a tiny bit annoying but I'm getting used to it. Very impressed with the Lenovo laptop, and happy with Linux Mint instead of Windows.
Mine got delayed for some reason but they were very helpful when I e-mailed them about it.

    Ciao :)

    Hi Bobcobb,

What's the specs of the G500s?

Yeah I bought it on monday morning and come Wednesday they gave me absolutely no information on what was going on with my order, whether it was received or otherwise.

Upon checking my bank account, they took the money out and when I emailed them I got no response. I started panicking for fear I'd been scammed so contacted the head office by phone and they were very helpful in sorting it out for me.

They put the money back into the account for me and said it won't be deducted until after it's been dispatched. :)

It's an i5-3230. I hadn't seen the i7 offer when I bought it but it's still pretty nippy.
Hope yours arrives soon. They were very helpful alright, and very efficient!

Ordered on a Saturday, arrived the following Tuesday. It was actually out for delivery Monday with UPS but they must've run out of time to deliver or something so it came Tuesday. Located in the South East btw. I'm assuming this is the G510 on Bargain Alerts thread? Great laptop. No complaints (unless you count the German keyboard).

Hi Aspiring, I'm in Dublin but I had it delivered to the home in Limerick. I ordered my one last Sunday 10th and it arrived on the Tuesday also! Planning on installing Linux Mint Debian on it but i'll have a tinker with it cause i don't know if the Linux Kernel supports Hyperthreading(Reply if you know it does!)

I have the girlfriend bringing it up with her now for the weekend, really looking forward to getting my hands on it!
