Problems with reboot after 6870 driver installation

Hi guys, I'm having a problem since I had to replace my old HDD, since I've started using my new HDD(Seagate Barracuda 500GB).

The problem is that when I load in the OS and go through the whole installing my mobo/gfx chipsets my machine won't pass the windows splash on bootup and hangs at a black screen.

Just for clarification purposes the mobo/gfx are:

    Mobo: ASRock 970 Extreme 3
    GFX: Asus EAH 6870

If I just install the AMD all in one driver set for my mobo I can boot fine, it's just when I install the 6870 driver(I've tried all 3 versions from the official site, and also ones from non-official, still to the same problem).

I've seen some people say the fix can be to boot through "Enable low-resolution video (640×480)", but I can't for the life of me find how to get this on my setup, I've tried all the usual F8/F11 commands and can't get my advanced boot options, would anyone know if I have to enable this or anything? It's just I've been trying everything to get my machine back up and running and I'm ready to chuck it out the window at this stage :p It's just I had no problem with my gfx card until I got the new hdd, but I've checked the HDD and it seems fine with the tests I've run, and my display is running off the card anyway so I wouldn't say it's the card? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    - Kevin

You should make sure all the power cables are plugged in properly. If you are over clocking the CPU set it to stock speeds whilst installing the OS. How are you installing Windows, with USB or a CD Rom?. You should check to see if the Hard drive is set to AHCI instead of legacy IDE (SATA instead of IDE) in the BIOS before you install Windows. Make sure you are downloading the right graphic driver for your operating system, I.e Win 7/Win 8 x32 or x64. I have never bothered installing most of the motherboard drivers over the years so you could not bother to install the chipset motherboard drivers at this time and let Windows use generic drivers. If the problem persists you could have a bad harddisk or graphics card.

Yeah all the cables ect are fine, literally just swapped out the HDD, no overclocking ect being done. I'm installing through USB and yeah the HDD is set to AHCI, it's definitely the right driver too, have the legacy driver still on an old usb from the first install so it's not that at fault.

It's just weird cause the HDD is passing what tests I do, and the only display output I have is the GFX card due to my mobo not having an output so I hardly think it'd be the card? It was working fine and I never had an issue until I got this HDD. Just annoying the hell outta me cause I seem to have tried everything except the booting into low res which I still haven't found out if it's possible on my mobo, or if it is, how to do it.

    Can you boot in safemode?

Haven't tried to boot into safe mode after the RS, ill try that as soon as I'm home. What'd you advise if it manages to boot into safe? Or would booting into safe mode simply eliminate potential causes of the issue?

You could remove any trace of graphic drivers on the system, and reinstall the latest drivers. There is an app you can download to do this. http://www.guru3d.com/files_details/display_driver_uninstaller_download.html
