colouring over roots

I want to either get rid of the colours in have in my hair, or colour over it, but I'm just wondering if I get a colour done in a hairdresser will the line of my roots showing show up under the colour they do? I think it would if I was to do it myself at home, but just wondering if it's any different when a hairdresser does it?

If it's all the same I'll probably just colour it myself. There seems to be a few places that do colour removal, but the deals going don't tend to offer that, more commonly its a colour, hence my question about the colouring.

What colour is your hair at present, and what colour are your roots, and what colour do you want to end up with?

Sorry I thought that was clear. I ideally want to get the colour stripped out. But I already tried a home removal thing and it lightened it a bit, from a kinda brown red to a lighter red/blonde. I would want it all gone but not sure that'd work so would maybe dye over it with a nice dark brown.

My hair naturally is a medium brown. I just wanted to know if the colour they use in the hairdressers would colour over the colour and my own colour evenly, or would I end up with a line of roots obvious.

Ok..well, stripping can be very harsh on the hair and i think the hairdressers is the best place to do it. when you have a consultation and explain what you want, they will let you know if its do-able. they might need to use a different colour on your roots to lighten or darken them and then some other dye to go over the whole lot once its been stripped.

it will be more expensive than doing it yourself but at least youre guaranteed to have it looking nice and it will save you a lot of time and effort. then the touch ups will be straightfrward after that and you could probably do them at home too.
then in the unlikely event your hair is not an even colour all over and the roots area does not match the rest of your hair you shouldnt pay for it until it is fixed. they are trained to know how to do this.

Ok well thanks. It sounds likely to be pricey. Can't seem to find prices for removals anywhere.

Probably. Find a good hairdresser and phone them up and ask for a rough estimate. If that sounds about right, they should give you a free consultation.

If you decide to do it yourself this forum might be handy. It's mostly people who use 'crazy' colurs but they're all used to stripping their own colours and re dying it so should be well able to help with advice,
