Triax TSC114 vs Walker WP645TS-HD

    Hay all,

I'm looking at these two combo boxes and trying to decide between them. The Walker has a 7-day UK EPG but you can't record sat and watch RF at the same time and vice versa. The Triax can do that, and has a combined EPG, but only has a now/next EPG for UK channels.

Am I right that these are the main differences between the two boxes? Is there any box that can do everything?

    Kev

The walker box can record a satellite and watch a terrestrial box once the box has been updated to version 2.9 as far as I remember. To get thew freesat guide you have to update the box to 3.8.

The triax box can record one and watch another, or when recording a sat channel you can watch another sat channel providing the channel is on the same transponder...

Both boxes have network ports that do nothing.

Personally I still prefer the triax box myself as have seen too many freezing problems with the walker box and its countless other names...

Ive been told from a reliable source that the Sab HD Triple Tuner is the way to go, running Enigma2 Linux OS.

Its not Enigma2, its a ported and hacked version of E2 to run on an STi chipset. E2 is written for Broadcom chips.

Amyhow same as the Amiko and GI Triplex they are what they are.

If you want an e2 box, get a Vu+, Gigablue, Technomate or Xtrend etc.

E2 boxes however are a steep learning curve from a plug n play combo tuner.

Do the broadcom boxes have real world advantages and disadvantages compared to the STi boxes? The STi boxes seem very popular. Would you recommend paying more for the Broadcom ones? are the plug-ins inter-compatible?

Sorry, I've done a good bit of research into these boxes now but this was a curveball to me!

    Okay,

Looking further into it I have another option.

I have an XBMCbuntu box that I count put a DVB-T (Saorview) and DVB-S (Freesat SD) USB dongles out the back of it (no spare PCI ports). and then get a remote for it, maybe a Xbox 360 DVD remote.

Has anyone done this? How is the UI and EPG via XBMC?
