    mitsubishi canter pickup truck

front left (outer) brakepad fell off,

drove about 60 miles today, no load

noticed nothing with breaks but found the brakepad in the yard this evening meaning it fell off yesterday evening,

the brakes warning light has been on the last week and she's booked in for tuesday

it "looks" like the yoke that holds the brakpad is rubiing off the disc, is that possible ?

have i done more damage driving without the brakepad,

is it ok to drive to truck center tuesday or do i need to call someone out tomoorrow,

    thanks

How could it happen without noticing though.
At the very least, you would have found the pedal going to the floor until it pushed the piston out to contact the disc.

Not if it was the inner pad that fell out.

    thanks for your replies ,

i got someone to look at it in the morning,

but in your opinion /knowledge can the yoke that holds the brakepad actually hit/damage the disk when the brakepad falls out,

    thanks and good night

    I don't follow.
If a brake pad falls out that space will have to be made up and pedal will go to floor until it's pumped fluid through to fill that gap.

So the people behind you dont see any brake lights??? Nice.

I'll tell you exaxtly what happened as I see it regularly. You didnt pay attention to the condition of your truck.
I'd bet you have a nice car and the canter is only foe work. You drive it all day and dont give it a second thought.

If your pad fell out of the caliper then it has been worn down to the metal backing plate a come free. You then clearly stated that you drove it for 60 miles knowingly with a brake issue that could be lethal.

Not wishing you bad but you should have been in a crash driving a truck not fit for the roads. Brakes are the only thing to stop you killing someone and you didnt even car enough to leave the truck in the yard.

Regrettably this is all together too common a mindset for a lot of lads. It baffles me as a mechanic to think people take chances with faulty trucks just to earn a few quid. You were lucky this time. Be responsable and maintain your truck to safe standards for the love of jasus.

This sounds like the disc has been worn well past its minimum thickness and the pad has been worn right down to the metal, therefore it could slip out!

Some very basic checks and maintenance required on a regular basis.
