Internships

Bit of advice needed. I have previously done an internship and finding it hard to sell; potential employers get turned off when they see intern as its perceived as low status/making coffees etc. What "better-sounding" alternatives for research intern on the CV? Research Intern looks rather unimpressive.

Why not explain on CV what type of internship it was ,if it wasn't making coffee.

Any professional HR department will not just think an Intern just makes coffee. Especially if you have a short description of the role which im assuming you do.

Maybe you just dont fit the profile of person they want. What industry are you working in?

You do not need to say "intern" on your CV.

Just say "X month contract with
YYY as a Marketing Assistant "... Or whatever the job you did was.

The exact nature of you employment contract is no one's business.

This, especially if it was a paid internship. If you're getting paid, it's a job.

I went to an interview for a paid internship last week. On the job spec, the internship had an actual job title. So whoever gets the internship will be able to put that title on their CV.

As for people writing it off as coffee-making. If you can demonstrate things that you would only if you've actually done the job on a CV, then they'll know it was more than coffee-making. Does that make sense? Like say in my current job, I've been it a few months but already know lots of stuff I didn't know when I started. Demonstrate the new stuff you've learned that can only be learned by getting stuck in and doing more than coffee-making. :)

You should be describing the role in detail on your CV anyway, including what your responsibilities were and in particular any achievements/successes you had.

A good way of saying it (if true) was 'Structured Internship Programme' at companyx from 2013-14

Apologies for hijacking a thread, but quick question regarding internships.
From my understanding, I need to be on the dole for 78 days before I can take up an internship. When you apply for the dole, the first 3 days aren't counted (as far as I know) so is it the same when counting your days for your internship?
Also, do Sundays count as a day when counting up the days?

(Does any of the above make sense?) :o
