    Hi all,

I have a Panasonic Viera TX-L37E5B. Is a Satellite receiver required to get FTA/Freesat or is this built in. The operating instructions say that it has DVB-T / T2 so I'm not sure.

    Thanks for any advice.

    Paul.

It doesn't have DVB-S as far as I can see so I'll get a separate receiver.

    Thanks for your reply.

A quick way to check, a TV with a internal satellite tuner will have a screw-on F-connector socket (satellite dish input) at the rear of the TV beside the aerial input socket.

I've now checked and there is no F-connector socket, thanks

There's a Ferguson Ariva 252 for €105 including postage on ebay

There's a Ferguson Ariva 102E for €69 including postage on ebay

Is it worth paying the extra €36 for the 252? My TV has built in DVB-T so I don't necessarily need the combo but maybe it is better to have the combo receiver for ease of use? Are there any other advantages?

or should I be looking at a different brand/model of receiver?

To be quick: if you want to record stuff, go with the combi. The Arivas are as good as anything at the cheap 'n' cheerful end of things.

If you want full watch/record flexibility on terrestrial & satellite, maybe series linking, you will want to look at something a bit more sophisticated (& costly).
