NCT Question [door handle]

My gfs Punto is up for NCT at the end of the month and one of the things in due to fix list is the door handle. Think the spring is gone one the external drivers door handle, so when you lift it, it doesn't come back down again.

She used to just pushing it back down when getting into the car and the door closes fine. Just wondering would that be considered unsafe by the tester?

    Thanks

No, as long as it opens the door and door remains closed after you shut it there shouldn't be a problem.

But if you don't push the door handle back down, door won't stay closed.

If I told the tester her has to push it down. Would he be ok with it then. Cause obviously he would leave the handle up and wonder why the door won't close.

    Probably not no.

It's kinda like saying "i know it's broken as it doesn't work as it should, but here's a little kludge"

Spray some wd40 on it , pull handle up and down untill it is free it will be fine.

Had the door card off today to have a wee look, tried to grease the area where the link went down, it made the door handle less stiff to go up and down, but still won't automatically go down :) probably a spring or some other part of the mechanism gone that pulls it back down.

Ah, in that case the tester will probably fail it as it's not working according to spec.

Apart from any test, that's something that should be fixed

At least punto handles are black and easily got.

My old one used to do that

WD40 the hinge then work the handle till you get **** cramp to sort it

Yep, I had the exact same thing and this sorted it. I had to pull the handle up and down around 30 times to work the stuff in

The spring is on the outside remember, you don't remove the door card, its also well blocked by the handle design so best to remove the handle to lubricate it. Every punto I have seen has had this problem

I can't remove the handle from the outside. It's being held on by two bolts on the inside of the door. Unless I'm missing something. I'll give it another go next week.

    Thanks

Sorry I meant you cant lubricate it from inside

Looks like the bit of greasing on Saturday eventually did the work.

Car door handle got some use after sitting idle for 3 months and now all working fine again. Thanks for the replies.
