An Pord Pleanala have ignored their Inspector & given the green light to build turbines on a foraging area of Hen Harriers.

Under international legislation, the Hen Harrier is a protected species but not, seemingly, its foraging area! How ludicrous is that?

The hen harrier can forage in an area where there are no wind turbines, simple as.!!
Time for a reality check here, do you want an area where a hen harrier can 'forage' or do you want electricity to power tour laptop so you can whinge on boards.ie ?
From 10/15 years ago hardly anyone in this country even heard of or knew what a hen harrier was.
Would you care to enlighten us as to where this wonderful 'bird of prey' came from.?

The Hen Harrier is a protected bird for the simple reason its foraging areas are under serious threat and are being reduced because of developments such as this!

I doubt 10 turbines would supply enough power to even turn on a laptop on a nice calm day like today.

Yeah - they also ignored the fact that it was on an important tourist route and the 5 other reasons for refusal put forward by their own inspector. Unfortunatly there has been a number of ABP deceisions recently that have seen them ignore the advice of their own inspectors on a number of issues regarding wind farm developments. Irelands policies in this area are failing to comply with the Aarhaus directive among other things and there is a number of court cases ongoing at the moment in relation to this.

First of all it's a native bird of prey - due to habitat loss and persecution their numbers were very low. You seem to be implying they were released - they weren't. Do some research before you jump to a conspiracy theory that suits your agenda.

Second of all - the places it can forage are very limited and ever-decreasing because of decisions like that. Whereas there are many many more areas where wind turbines can be placed - it's just lazy/greedy to demand they get put in a place like this - our electricity supply will never be in danger because we decide to heed scientific advice on protecting species and ecosystems, and the services they provide.

So there's an actual reality check - "simple as.!!"

Mod note: This isn't After Hours - disagreement is fine and discussio is encouraged, but if you imply someone is whinging again simply because you disagree with them, you'll get a ban.
