Text On Screen

    Gents,
Please, please, please, could any of you nice folk on here assist me with an issue that is doing meh poor ol' head in.

I recently had an aerial erected on roof for saorview channels. Picture is fine etc etc. But, no matter what channel -- RTE, TV3, etc -- I watch, there is a text ticker-tape of what is being said slap-bang in the middle of the screen.
I've spent hours and hours trying to delete this text, but to no avail. I've tried everything in "Settings", and more besides. This text thing is seriously impacting my viewing experience. I'm desperate and at wits end, which is why I have come on here to plead for any advice.
I would be so very grateful for any ideas you may have.
Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.
    Regards,
    Jack.

Are you using a tv or a tv with a Saorview box connected ? What model(s) do you have? Quickest option might be select factory reset if you can see that.

Its subtitles, have you looked for a button on the remote for them? Might also be in a button under audio.

Atlantic, no -- there is not a separate saorview box; the saorview is integrated into the TV.
The TV is an LG model 42PM4700.

I'll look up the manual and try to find instructions for resetting to factory settings.

I have, Pots, but can't find anything that works to eliminate the text/subtitles.
I have tried Sound Options, Settings, Disability Options, everything.
I dunno. I guess I'll just have to learn to live with it. :o

Do you reckon it is definitely an issue with the tv/remote, rather than anything to do with the signal coming through the aerial?

The thing is, that the installation engineer who erected the aerial couldn't get rid of the subtitles either. And he is a hugely experienced guy with his own TV business here in East Cork.
He also erected my SKY dish (freeview) on the roof, and that doesn't have any problem with the subtitles on the UK channels.

Came across similar on a European model of Philips TV a few years ago, tried all the usual but can't remember the option that removed the subtitles, something like subtitle text language?

Is there any option in the Quick Menu?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,223 ✭✭✭pro_gnostic_8

None that resolves the issue, Byte.

What is truly bugging me is that "Hard Of Hearing" in Disability Options is definitely turned Off, but still the text is on the screen.

I'm considering a reset to factory settings but am reluctant to do so in case anything else gets f***ed up.
I'll just need to learn to live with this, I guess; but thanks to everyone for your suggestions.

Get onto LG. They should be able to help you. They do have a support service.

It looks like sub-titles are turned on and they can/should be turned off. I would do a full factory reset first though, set the country to Ireland, and a re-tune.

You could try updating the firmware/software but only after contacting LG.
