Surely I am not the only one with this problem.

Seeing as I spend most of my waking hours in wellys I have two constant bald patches on both legs on the side of my shins. Normally its not a problem but lately there starting to sting everytime I walk, I tried big thick socks to stop the rubbing but in this heat my feet are soaked with sweat by the end of the day which defeats the prupose of wellys.

Anyway, I was thinking rigger boots but could someone atleast tell me that these fecking bald patches are normal because i havent met anyone with the same thing. Am I the only one with what I am now calling the 'fish farmers acre'.

Would crocs and shorts be ok to wear in this weather for you ? I have no hair on the back of my calfs from wellies but it wouldnt be stinging . Are your wellies too small by any chance ? :D

What about a pair of fancy tights? :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40 fishfarmer

12 mil pellets regularly find there way in and up stuck between my toes so I'd say there far from too small.

But thanks be to jesus someone else has it, dont think I've ever had hair on these parts of my legs.

One of the lads suggested I lubricate meself up in the morning to stop the friction, but his english isnt the best so he might have misunderstood.

What sort of bog land have you to say you need wellies to travel it in this weather? In the winter do you use waiders?

I am on land these days, but I still get soaked regularly. Theres a lot of water, if it wasnt for the wellys it would be trenchfoot.

Don't know who Arthur Daley is . When he said the 12mm pellets find their way into his wellies it was another giveaway that it was fish food .

Not that hard to look up previous posts to see if a person is who they say they are:confused: I don't think 6 months ago fishfarmer decided to make an account just to have a joke online.

As a serious (if there can be one) answer to the question.
When I was working in the factory, the wellies were all sizes 10 upwards, 4 sizes too big for me, plus walking all day meant I was rubbing on them and was warm in the overalls.

But I didn't get a rash like you say you are getting, only heat rash.
Shave your legs completely perhaps:p Or aloe vera, seems to cure all things.

Ah yea Renegade, that's my daily uniform on the farm!

The hair on my calf is probably a bit bare at top of the welly but not completely and it was that way all winter when i was in the wellies all day every day nearly but the only time I've ever had anything worse was a combination of shorts and putting on the wellies to walk longer grass in morning when checking cattle, never had a problem once the jeans are on and tucked in....

As every one else says time for new boots and try get one thats snug enough around your leg so that it cant rub...

Its either a river or the sea, water is not this cold this time of the year, wear sandals just my 0.02.

No offence but if I were in your shoes working in the factory (no pun intended :)) I would have purchased a pair of boots (at my own expense) to suit my foot.
At the end of the day, unfortunately not all employers are up to date with the relevant health and safety regulations.

Boss probably wouldn't allow sandals for health and safety. I'm going to get some new fancy wellys with little adjustable belts on them, failling that a few elastic bands to tighten them up around me legs.

wellies need to be comfortable if you're spending a lot of time in them. never really had a rash of them, they're fine and don't rub with jeans/overall. also wear thick rugby socks inside mine which helps i reckon. i do get the odd ingrown hair on my calf, i think that's down to wearing wellies for hours on end

What socks do lads wear in wellies? In the winter I wear the wooly ones the mother gets this time of the year with weather like this I try wear boots as much as I can but when I'm milking or at stock I wear light socks. But they last no length

Not really as the socks are breathable. My boots are steel toe capped chainsaw proof leather boots, fairly heafty. Like these
