They're usually pretty quick.. did you check your spam folder in case it ended up there?

First Ireland are brokers rather than an Insurer, I wouldn't chance it without confirmation

I've a classic car with them for years. I find them very good to deal with.

p.s. Why didn't you call themback at 4.30pm OP?

If you did a statement of fact over the phone and they took payment there and then via card, you're insured.

I wouldnt trust it myself, as I said before, they are not an insurance company.

You know what they say about assumptions especially when it comes to insurance!

May I ask what's the difference between a Broker and just a standard Insurance Company? I see that when getting quotes online some don't seem reluctant to deal with you if you've been with a Broker?

A broker is an intermediary who (subject to status) will be able to quote several insurance companies rates, and make a recommendation.

A direct writer is an insurer dealing directly with a member of the public.

You can go from Broker to direct writer or the other way around at any stage. Both channels are more than happy take on good business regardless of who handled it previously.

I am with First Ireland too, usually once I pay and ask question: "Am I insured now for [that] vehicle?" and they give solid answer of yes I just go on and drive, never had problems of Garda giving me fine for not showing insurance disc, at worst I've been given 2-3 weeks to bring insurance cert to garda station. But yeah as said above they are pretty quick with sending the certs.
