Thinking about Acer Aspire E1-572

I need to buy a new laptop. I would be very grateful for any advice.

I want a fast machine, by that I mean opening multiple Word/Excel/Powerpoint files fast, and browsing between multiple website tabs fast.

I want a future-proofed CPU - I don't really want to save 20-40 euro now, but then have a slow machine in 2/3 years time.

    I don't play games.

I'm not interesting in watching TV on it, and HDD storage capacity is not too important.

I will be travelling between three locations on a weekly basis, but will usually always have power nearby, so battery life is not that important.

I have come to the conclusion that at a minimum I need an Intel Core i5 processor - would that be correct?

I have been looking at the Acer Aspire E1-572 - it seems to get good reviews.

    Here are two options:

PC World 15.6”, Core i7-4500, 6 GB RAM, 750 GB HDD, Windows 8

    = 670 euro

    Amazon.co.uk 15.6”, Core i7, 8 GB DDR3 SDRAM, 1 TB HDD, Windows 8.1

    495stg = 645-650 euro

The Amazon one is maybe 20e cheaper, with more RAM and Windows 8.1 as against 8.

    Any opinions????

    Thank you so much.

Not going to offer advice on that particular spec, but I can check one thing off your list: I bought an Aspire myself a few months ago and I'm very happy with it. An attractive laptop with no bloatware and great build quality.

Having previously gone Asus, I'd be inclined to stick with Acer in the future.

Just a word of warning that the Acer you list has an Ultra Low Voltage (ULV) i7 processor, which is dual core as opposed to quad core in the 'full fat' variant, you can compare both here.
If you are just doing general office tasks and some browsing, the ULV will be fine. In fact, if you are set on the Acer, I would save £50 and buy that machine from the amazon warehouse - more often than not it is just the packaging that has some damage. With the savings, go and buy a Solid State Drive (SSD), install it and put the Operating System on it and that will make a world of difference to everyday performance.
