Pre pay meter

    Hi,
I have just bought a house and it has a prepay meter installed. I have some queries. What is the process to get this changed to a credit meter? Is the meter replaced with a conventional meter or is the existing meter left in place? I've never seen a meter like this before and I don't see a way that I can get meter readings for my own info.
    Can you help?

    Hi dazzymc,

Are you referring to electricity or gas?

There are two types of electricity prepayment meter.  The older one is a token meter, where you buy cards and insert them into the meter. The second is the keypad meter.  You buy top ups in the shop and type a code into the meter.  We would normally remove token meters free of charge and we would convert the payg meter to bill mode by giving you a 60 digit code.  If you wish to go back on prepay mode (only if you have prepayment meter in property already), we can send out cards and once you get these if you put in another 60 digit code it would be reverted to prepay mode.

The gas meter has a card, which you insert it into the machine.  You can buy one in most payzone outlets. Just ask for a natural gas card.

If you send us your details via private message, we can have a look at this for you.

    Kind regards,
    Aoife M

    Hey Aoife,
    Thanks for the quick reply.
It's an electricity meter I was referring to.
The meter has a keypad but I will be renting the property and my clients are requesting that I get the prepay meter removed and the older fashioned one re-installed. Is this possible?

    Hi Darren,

The meter will remain in property. You just need to get a code to revert it back to bill pay mode. There is information we require from meter such as the meter read which you get by pressing button 9 and if the power is on or off. We can put your name on the account and arrange this for you.

Send us a pm and we can advise you further.

    Kind regards,
    Aoife M
