Hello! I've been exploring getting a proper desktop PC for a few months now and I've been kinda sold by some posts here on getting one from hardwareversand. I'm a total n00b to PC building though so I'd really appreciate the help or advice of anyone here. :)

I'm kinda set on some kind of slimline miniPC that would be relatively portable and maybe fit in a large backpack. For example, I was originally set on an Alienware X51 but the good people of boards.ie advised me I could get much better value by pursuing this course instead.

    1. What is your budget? €600-€700

    2. What will be the main purpose of the computer? Gaming, Internet, light Photoshop/Illustrator use. I'd be pretty happy if I could play some games from the past 5 years or so (GTAV, KSP, WatchDogs, Skyrim). Wouldn't necessarily need to be high settings.

    3. Do you need a copy of Windows? No.

    4. Can you use any parts from an old computer? No.

    5. Do you need a monitor? No.

5b. If no, what resolution is your current monitor and do you plan to upgrade in the near future? I have a 1920x1080 monitor atm but it's VGA only so whatever I build here would need to have VGA output or I'd need to get a DVI-VGA/HDMI-VGA adapter or something. I don't think I need to upgrade?

    6. Do you need any of these peripherals? None other than I'd like a wireless card for convenience (included below) but a USB Dongle would do too I suppose.

    7. Are you willing to try overclocking? No.

    8. How can you pay? Visa Debit, Paypal

    9. When are you purchasing? Within 14 days.

    10. If you need help building it, where are you based? Dublin

I made this build on hardwareversand with the skinflint discounts, but I have no idea if it even makes sense. Can you fit those components in a case that small? Is that an appropriate PSU/fan? Is the CPU overkill? Will the good people of hardwareversand actually assemble this or just laugh?

You don't need the cooler for the cpu. You should try and get the gtx 760 instead of 750 ti.

One thing to note is that motherboard does support the CPU but might require flashing the bios before it works :
    https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/H81MPLUS/HelpDesk_CPU/

That would leave you in a chicken/egg situation unless you can get your hands on another older socket 1150 chip to get the board up and running initially.

It might already be pre-flashed though it's hard to tell as haswell refresh hasn't been out that long.

Also you need a low profile GPU for that case.

Personally I'd lower the cpu to a x4 750k or fx 6300 and upgrade the gpu to a r9 270x

Try to fit the gtx 760 into it. If not the R9 270. Same as R9 270x when overclocked.

Could go down the Fx 6300 or the 8320 route either.

    Thanks for the input! :D

Ok, say I chose a larger case, GTX 760, and chose an older CPU to avoid the scenario Addled described. Thoughts?

tbh get a second hand gfx card. 7970's going for 200 or less atm on adverts. these are the same as r9 280x's. big jump from whats being mentioned here.
