A joke - but over last 2 months have won over 150 euro playing golf. :p:)

Didn't know you could win money / vouchers. All new to me.

What do people feel about this in the amateur game - nice and all that , but does it add an unwelcome dimension ?

How much have you won - your biggest single prize or approx over a year.

Won a golfing trip to the states in 2004, flights, car hire, accommodation, all the food and drink you could manage over a three day golf competition on three separate courses, it was $10k entry for a team of 4 in a MS fundraiser so $2.5k worth for me, unforgettable experience. My one and only golf holiday and it was free!

    Class -

But , did you feel it changed things - how people approached the whole thing.

I have to say won a good bit thru the years but nothing major. A lot of the time its credit/gear from a pro shop. i'd say the €75 GUI voucher for winning a open in Strandhill last year was the biggest cash/vouchers i have gottwr.

Have seen the lowest handicapper in our club have over €900 in 2's winnings one year.

Oh, I get you, well for me it didn't, I always have and always will play one shot at a time and never change no matter what, so if I'm playing brutal I try my best to 'reset' at every shot and make some pars, on the other hand if I happen to be playing well I don't go conservative or put the breaks on, reset and hit the best shot I think is appropriate.
I do think folk in societies with their much more flexible 'shots back' approach tend to put in bad scores to increase their chances of prizes, I see it a lot and just ignore it.
You should go to howdidIdo sometime and look at some finishing score on guys trying to get a 0.1back, laughable and done to increase chances of winning prizes I'd imagine, just a shame that

I also think that it's a really good plan to if possible use your vouchers to buy a club or something that you'll use on the course regularly, for me my plan is to use the vouchers to buy a Scotty Newport 2.5 putter. Reason being is that on the days that you aren't doing well for whatever reason, you can remind yourself that I have played well enough in the past to win this or whatever.
The hard thing is not buying until there's enough in vouchers there for it. Another reason to stay sharp in the closing holes.

I;ve won a fair bit over the years, can safely say that the prize doesnt enter my head when playing at all.
If it was 4 or 5 figures maybe...but even then I doubt it.

I never play for prizes generally, maybe Captain's day being the one exception. Normally it is all about getting my handicap down and posting the best score possible on a given day. I have won many vouchers over the years, recently have won over €100 worth of off license vouchers in my local pub society :)

have €70 worth of vouchers tucked away so far, looking at picking up a new powacaddy before august as im booking in to play the Down summer trophy and have a week of solid golf planned.

Trying to not waste the vouchers this year on balls and gloves etc..went through around €120 in vouchers last season when i could have picked up a nice wedge or something.

Was lucky enough to win our subs voucher last year worth €500... Had a few other prizes too. This year so far I won a putter worth about €120..........

To me, the only prize I'm interested in is getting cut

That said, I've got about €400 this year invouchers so far. More than any previous years, but for once, there's nothing I really need to get. Typical!

This year so far I've won a bottle of gin and a bottle of vodka :o - 3rd prize in a scramble.

Injury has limited my playing time so far this year, only played 4 singles comps.

Having a decent year prizes-wise. Won a €50 voucher for winning club event, came third in another and got a lovely Nike golf kit bag and won a nice 50 degree wedge for coming third in a society outing.

I've won a lot this year already.
Approx total value of €350-400 all in credit and vouchers.

To be honest I've never given the prize a second thought when coming home with a good score.

The only thing I'm chasing and thinking about is a cut in the handicap.

Wow surprised with the amount of prizes and their value people are winning. Last year I didn't win a single thing in about 35 competitive rounds and I think the single biggest prize I've ever won was a GUI voucher for €90 for winning an open competition in Oughterard a few years ago. This year I've broken my loosing streak with one 2nd place finish winning a golf bag for which I got €60 credit. Seriously need to up my game and return.

Absolutely with you there. Foursomes qualifier, I was off 18. Shot a net 6 under 65 & got cut 2 to 16. Next round, my partner asked what was I thinking of (tongue in cheek) but tbh, I wish I was cut more. We still won our next round.

My goal is a big ask, 8 shots in 12 months. I was 20 last September & I want to be 12 before winter, but I am half way there. Prizes don't come into it, however, I would cherish a monthly medal.

There does be some great prizes in the opens around, luttrelstown is 150 cash and is normally won with mid 30's score

Surprised to hear that about Luttrellstown, I've a friend who's a member there and the prizes for their club competitions are generally pretty terrible despite an expensive €10 entry fee. Think I remember him recalling having won a weekend competition and only getting something like €40 or €50 worth of credit limited to the poorly stocked shop or bar/restaurant. Guess their open competitions are organised differently which is positive as it's a class course and in my view the best parkland in Dublin (haven't played Hermitage yet which I hear is good)
