    Hi there,

Say I worked in the private sector for 15 years and then left to work in the public sector for 30 years can I get some OAP by reference to the 15 years contributions?

Can I keep contributing to the PRSI as a voluntary member so I can get full OAP at 66/68?

    No. http://www.welfare.ie/en/downloads/sw8.pdf

Voluntary contributions are for people who have left the PRSI system.

Regarding your qualification for OAP having worked in the private sector for 15 years, it would depend on the qualifying conditions at the time of application. These have changed in the last few years and will probably change again.

Another factor would be the year you joined the public sector. Pre-1995 pay Class B and D PRSI and post-1995 pay Class A PRSI.

Perhaps post back with more info or whether it's a hypothetical question.

Anyone know if pre employment credits count towards the state pension. I have mixed contributions (B and D approx 2100, and A approx 500 )and based on one way of calculating works out at €45 per week state pension ( €230 x 501 / 2600 = €45 ) discounting the pre employment credits (€230 x 481 / 2600 = €43) Another way is the average number of full A contributions 501 /50 (1966 to 2015 is 50 years) so the average is just over 10 = €82 per week state pension. Without the pre- employment credits this drops to under 10 and this method would not count. All depends on those 20 pre employment credits in 1966. Anyknow know if they are counted or discounted.
