Dream Job and Dream Travel ... both?!!

    Hey!

So I have a dilemma ... or an issue that I need help with regarding my new business and my imminent travel plans!!

So I had a crappy internship job that I was bored out of my mind doing and decided to turn my humble baking blog/website into a specialised home baking business in my spare time. I'm earning some extra cash and keeping my brain from packing up and leaving me for good! The business took off though and I'm up the walls. The name of the business, and my name, have gotten around and demand is growing. My dream has always been to set up a small artisan cafe, nothing major, just enough to keep me going and keep me happy!

    Now for the predicament...

Myself and the other half are realising another dream next year, cycling around the world! The savings are building slowly but surely, the bikes and gear are ready and the excitement levels are rising! We are going, no question.

So, has anyone any ideas of how/if I can go away for the bones of a year and not throw away a year of solid ground work for my new venture? I'll be active online and sourcing recipes from everywhere I go but I'm not sure what to do with the business when I'm gone, whether I should hire someone to keep it going and keep supplying customers while I'm gone or what??

I'm in my late 20's with no kids/mortgage/general responsibilities so I'm pretty free to do whatever at the moment. I also don't plan on having kids and am not too fussed about being a millionaire so a big career plan isn't my worry! I just want to be happy but am worried about missing my "big shot"!

I'm a firm believer in following your heart and doing what makes you happy but I'd to hear form anyone that was in a similar situation or has any input!

    Thanks a mil!

Moving from the Careers and Job Discussion sub-forum in Leaving Cert, which really is geared more towards school-leavers. :)

How long has the website / dream job been doing well ?
My first response is to stay with the website as these things can fade out quickly and suddenly.
If/When that happens you can head off travelling ,
For me a year or 2 delay in the travel would make the most sense.

Moved from Work and Jobs to E&BM .. I have a feeling the folks here might be more able to help.

Opportunities come to pass, not to linger!! You lucked into this business by a stroke of good fortune and if you continue to grow the business and then disappear.... with it will go all your established credibility/support. Before you came across this idea, it seems you were not making much headway, career wise.

You are in a nice position to be able to make life choices, but you would be wise to accept that the business is unlikely to survive if you take the travel choice.

The end decision is yours alone to make and nobody can predict their own future, let alone yours!!
