So I'm totally confused by the whole exam results system, I'm a first year arts student and I just dont know whats going on with it at all! The results that just came out for semester 2, are they assignments and written exams together or just the exams? And for semester 1 I haven't seen those results in that type of a format! Could any kind hearted person out there please explain it all to this simpleton? Would be much appreciated :)

If your results are provided through the Online system, they will list your modules, what result you got in percentage and whether it was a pass, fail, compensation or something like that. It will then tell you what your yearly average was and tell you whether you can continue to next year.
These are provided through your CASS account. Your result will be the full result for the year. Not sure if this is helpful or whether Arts is different to Commerce...

You clearly need to talk to somebody form the university it self. Your counselor, tutor, I don't know how you call them. Just ring the main office and ask for an appointment with him/her and get all your doubts clear at once. No point picking information from here and there. That is just a waist of time and you will never know if you got the right information.

I'm not really sure what a counselor will be able to tell someone about how the exam results are provided by different schools in the university. The tutors won't be too happy with someone making an appointment either to show them how to access exam results. I would suggest the exams office. And I'm pretty sure they will just direct the person to the NUI Galway website which shows them how to use their CASS account. From there, it is not really rocket science!!

The results that just came out are the final grades for the entire year so include both your continuous assessment and written exams for all modules.

The results from semester I were only provisional, as in the exams office don't release them as (at the time) they hadn't been officially checked by external examiners etc. It was up to the different schools and colleges whether or not to release them back in January, which is why they were in a different format.

You need to go to SID for any queries you might have.

Around this time yeah. It used to be much later (almost October) but they've gotten better AFAIK.
