Internal Wifi gone on Latop -repair or replace?

The internal wifi on my laptop (msi gx660r) has pretty much stopped working. It "sees" the router, but keeps dropping the internet connection claiming an issue with the "default gateway". For a few days it would stay connected for a while and then drop, today it wont stay connected at all. This is despite no change being made to the rooter in about a year and every other laptop and phone in the house working fine.

Is it worth my while trying to repair or replace the internal wifi card, or I am better off just getting a cheap external one (like this one for instance).

If you're sure it's a hardware issue, internal cards are simple to replace in most models.

Did you try a different wifi channel less than 9 ?

free program InSSIDer can show you your wireless signal environment.

My channel was already set to 1. But using InSSIDer, I saw that a couple of my neigbours channels were also set to 1, so I changed mine to 3.
Download speeds went from <2Mbps to ~80Mbps :D

Was it really just other SSIDs on the same channel interfering with mine?

Thanks for all your help :)

You should have changed it to 6. 1 & 3 still overlap.

try and move to non-overlapping channels explained on the wikipedia page for 802.11

but I've seen situations where either my neighbors or their router firmware all gravitate to the 3 non-overlapping channels so you get stuck with one of the middle ones, but sometimes that provides better output than joining the crowd.
