I want to get myself a new car after the summer break. Im 17 at the moment and own a 2008 Fiat Bravo 1.4 turbo 150bhp version. I have my full license and am paying 900€ insurance on my current car. I want something like an Alfa Brera 2.2 petrol or 2.4diesel. Or a 2.0diesel TT. I could afford the cars themselves but insurance would be my problem. Has anyone got any experience on these engine sizes. I will be 18 when i get tje car and hopefully will have my first years NCB

Your current premium sounds very low. How did you manage to get that?

The only way to find out likely premiums is to ask the insurers I'd have thought. Relatively big engines, sporty cars, and an 18 year old driver however sound like an expensive or perhaps impossible combo.

I'm very surprised that at 17 you are insuring a 150bhp car for under €1k, is that on your own policy, as a named driver on a parent's policy or large excess on the policy? I'd say you will genuinely struggle to insure the other type of cars for anything remotely respectable.

900 euro for a car with "turbo" in the name.

Did you leave out a 0 by mistake?

Not sure how that could be true. You'd have 0 ncb surely? Gross premium should be a couple of grand.

I'd go for the 2.4 jtd over the 2.2 jts. Yes diesel in an alfa is wrong, but so is a jts in an alfa. I hate them.

The 5 cylinder jtd is a very reliable engine and reasonably fuel efficient.
However if you can somehow manage to get cheap insurance on a 2.4 brera I'd suggest you live a little and get a 156/gt with a busso in it......everyone should own a busso once in their lives.

Ordinarily speaking I wouldnt have said that you would have a snowballs chance in hell of getting insured on the kind of cars you are referring to, but if you have a company that is willing to quote you €1300 on the Bravo then Id suggest sticking with them. Given your age, lack of experience and basically no NCB (a years named driving experience may or may not be worth much depending on who you talk to), you are going to seriously struggle to insure the likes of a TT or a Brera.
