Anyone have any experience with Parallels Desktop 9 software?

I was thinking about getting it for my Macbook pro (i5,4GB RAM) and installing Windows 8 to run Microsoft Office.

Im not sure it would run ok though?! Anyone have any experience with parallels?

    Thanks

Why not just buy Microsoft Office for Mac ? Way cheaper than buying Parallels, Microsoft Office and a Windows 8 license.

If it's a licensing thing and you have to run it in Windows then save yourself some money and use the free VirtualBox available here.

Ideally you'll need to give Windows 8 at least 2GB of RAM (preferably 4GB to be comfortable) so maybe upping the RAM in your Mac to 8GB would be wise.

I've been using Parallels for a few years now, it's ideal for those occasions when you have to have Windows to run something.

Zener is right about office for mac though, unless you have a specific reason for needing the Windows versions.

I can get Parallels 9 for 40 Euro and I already have a ton of software for Windows.

When I went to the Apple site, it said I couldnt upgrade my RAM as I got my Macbook a good few years ago.

Can I ask what RAM and Year your mac is?

VirtualBox is FREE and in my opinion easier and better than Parallels.

Any i5 Macbook Pro can take more than 4GB unless it's the MacBook Air. Go to memoryc.ie or crucial.com to find out the max or what's available for your Mac.

    2010 iMac i5 with 16GB.

Another question, if I get Windows 8.1, do I need the CD or will the download work?

Im not sure how I install Windows using Parallels.

Does it work ok on the Macbook Air? Does it crashe at all/much?

Thanks for the links,it says theres RAM available. I remember a few months ago I think I checked on the Apple site and it said I couldnt upgrade.

Do you know any place I can bring it to upgrade it?

Buy it from the likes of crucial and do it your self. A very simple task. Look at ifixit for guides if your not confidant about it. Just a matter of taking the cover off and clicking the ram in place.

I too have a question on this. I bought it some time ago but still haven't gotten around to installing it on my 2013 MBP. I bought it so I can run MS Project(which I bought separately).

My question is: now that I have Parallels and MS Project, do I also need to download and install a version of the Windows OS to use on my MBP? If so which one do I need? There are so many options it's very confusing! Or is the Windows OS built into the Parallels software?

Sorry for highjacking the thread but the answer may help the OP as well.

You need to have a copy of Windows as well. Check the Parallels requirements for which versions of windows it will handle.

Check the version of Parallels you have, then see which version of Windows it supports. You do need to have a copy of Windows to install inside Parallels and this copy of Windows will need to pass the same microsoft licensing tests as any other copy of Windows.

I bought Windows 8 Pro which bizarrely enough was on special offer in Tesco at the time.
