Second maths theory question

Hi all. I posted before asking a question about CO2.

I reached a theoretical problem that maybe you can help with.

Driver A gives Driver B a lift as they are both going to the same destination.

Since Driver B does not take his/her car the amount of CO2 prevented from entering the atmosphere is .06 tonnes CO2 for that particular trip.

Are both drivers entitled to say that they saved .06 tonnes of CO2?

I understand that maths would suggest to half the amount meaning technically .03 tonnes CO2 is what each person saved but is it not also right to say that they did in fact save .06 tonnes CO2 together so each can say they have saved .06 tonnes co2 for that trip.

Bit of a brain fart for me.

Two fellas have €100 between them. Fella A can't say he has €100. If he did, he'd really be a bit of a langer.

Don't forget to factor in the extra weight of moving the second person. This means that driver A's vehicle actually put out extra CO2

So driver b saved .06 but driver A spent .0034 extra to buy him that saving.

If me and my missus wanted to buy a car and saw one for 10,000 but decided we should shop around to see if there was one cheaper. We then find exact same car for 8,000. We made a saving of 2k together not 1K each.

So i think it is different when talking about savings then actual possessions. Maybe.

Yeah I am ignoring the extra weight difference for the moment.

Would you not say both drivers saved .06? They could not have made that saving without each other etc.

Not really. The two fellas can say " We have a €100". But each of them can't say "I have €100". I think you are right about it being a brain fart.

The issues are when talking about saving when more than one person is involved.

The more I look at it I think it is about context so i'll just leave it at that:)

    Cheers

Thats incorrect, since the other driver would drive elsewise he would influence the traffic on the road, so the saving in petrol could be greater than 6 in fact. Just imagine everyone did similar, there would be half as many cars on the road, and lots more CO2 savings.
