Crash repair price increased?

My car was recently damaged and the other person agreed to go through insurance. No damage to their car. I got a printed quote of around 1000 for repairs Inc vat and it was sent off to rsa. I got a text then today to say damage was agreed at €1500.
Obviously I'm delighted my car is being repaired but who is benefiting from this 500 extra?
I would imagine this sort of practice of overpriced repair bills, will affect everyone's premium in the long run

You got a text from whom?

If it was from the garage then perhaps they encountered something in the car that pushed the repair price higher than they had originally estimated?

No nothing has pushed the repair cost higher, the damage was relatively small. They were actually the most expensive out of any company who priced. They had already given me an itemised bill which I could proceed with for the other party. Then insurance company came into it.
I just rechecked the text though, it came from assessirl. Would the insurance assessor have to quote higher than the cost of repairs?
First time ever being involved in accident so all new to me

It's likely the assessor is insisting on some additional parts being replaced or OEM parts rather than non-OEM.

Effectively the assessor is there to make sure the insurance company only pay for what's needed, but also to ensure that the repair is done to a standard that doesn't leave the insurance company open to being pursued for a sub-standard job.

I think the general response is, don't worry about it - they're working to make sure your car is repaired properly.

If there is an assessor involved then I wouldnt be overly concenred that the insurance company is being screwed over.

Well it was damage to the door, that extra cost would roughly be the price for a new door, plus swap over. Will ring crash repair company and see is this the case

Sounds like its a Assessor price as mentioned above.

Did the car have to be towed after the accident? They could be paying you for car hire while your car is off the road being repaired although that would only be about 30 euro a day. Also when you go to sell the car it will lose a small bit of value because it has been damaged previously, so the could be factoring that in aswell. Either way, just take the cheque and pay the garage yourself, don't let them pay the garage directly.

Nope, no towing. To be honest it was more of a dent than a crash as such.

Seems like its all being dealt with behind the scenes so dont know if there is any way I can get the cheque. I just assumed that they would invoice the crash repairer directly. If its the case that the extra money is being allocated for loss of value, I certainly dont want that being claimed by the repairer

Why would you want to do this?

Looks like Paddy got it bang on, assessor requested that the door was replaced rather than attempt a fix that might later fail.
