Anyone playing the North West Open next month? Anyone any feedback on what Conca Wood, Farnham Estate and Slieve Russell are like?

I have played Concra Wood and the Slieve Russell recently and would highly recommend both. Concra Woods scenery is stunning as is the course and the Slieve Russell has a beautifully manicured parkland/lake side setting. Although you could easily get out on these 3 courses for approx €100 if playing opens which makes the €170 competion fee quite expensive in my eyes.

Thanks for the feedback Kieran. I take your point re the cost but I dont think you are comparing like with like. An open comp in a club will put on prizes for first second and third and usuallly consist of a voucher or token prize from the pro shop. Nothing that really catches the imagination generally.

NW open is putting on prizes for winners each day, overall winner strokes and stableford all the way down to 7th not to mention longest drive, nearest the pin and Augusta trip for a hole in 1 on the toughest par 3. The array of prizes to be distributed over the 3days and the quality of courses to be played over the weekend, I think makes the competition entry fee worthwhile.

If you take the Atlantic Coast Challenge as an example held in Rosses Point, Carne and Enniscrone the entry fee was as low as €120. But either way you in for a treat 2 top notch courses in Concra & Slieve Russell, Farnaham Estate is nice but not a patch on the other two its a simple parkland course but one of its main downfalls is the treks between some of the holes.

Or Portrush, Portstewart and Ballyliffin for €170. Most of the time these comps are less than the green fees making them super value.

True, but don't forget Atlantic Coast is Mon-Wed, 3 cheapest/quietest days of the week against North West Open Fri-Sat which are 3 busiest/most expensive days of week.

All in all, it's a treat and as I prefer parkland to links I'm happy with the package on offer. Should be a cracking few days.

3 superb courses. That fee looks a bit stiff though.
I played Farnham Wood and the €30 included a buggy and a club sandwich!(Got it through Groupon). Concra wood is €35 for an open. Slieve Russell was advertised on teetimes yesterday for €25.
    Well worth the travel

Again mate, like with like please. What were you getting for your round compared to a 3 day comp with so many prizes and so much admin work to be done? Tee times and groupon? Seriously! Ryanair websites. Good one. Shoot the lights out and getting nothing but a club sandwich for your troubles.

Stupid post. I like to play different courses round the country but resent being screwed on green fees. Go ahead, pay your €170, play like a sack but revel in the really good admin work that's been done.
