Tommy Seymour and Sean Lamont are in the Scottish squad for this
Fairly easy to pick the quarterfinalists...
Pool A: New Zealand, Canada, Scotland, Nigeria
Pool B: South Africa, Kenya, Cook Islands, Trinidad and Tobago
Pool C: Samoa, Wales, Papua New Guinea, Malaysia
Pool D: England, Australia, Sri Lanka, Uganda

NZ have won every gold for 7s since it was introduced to Commonwealth games(and not lost a game yet) so will assume they'll win the gold again

The wretched politics might be a stumbling block but I'd love to see a Northern Ireland team in this.

I thought Fiji was in the Commonwealth (being a former British colony and all that). Did they get kicked out or something? Interesting to see some of the bigger 15 a side stars being parachuted in.

Tonga missed out on competing due to the Tongan RFU's failure to pay the registration fees to the Commonwealth Games qualifying tournament

Habana is going to be wrecked come the World Cup. Unlike the Argies the European based Springboks are being played in the June internationals.

Apologies, i didnt realise it was after the world cup, hence questioning whether there would be tv coverage.

Is it not a bit of a kick in the stones for the actual 7s team who will miss out n this for the sake of Vernon,Lamont, grant et al?

I know Jones moved over recently enough to 7s permanently.

Likes of Lamont brought in to help bring in crowd. Don't see any issue with it. Regular 7s players virtually all still involved

Are they? Fair enough I guess.

Most squads seem to have a few full time sevens players and a few who can I pull from xvs type lads in all competitions. The who can I pull from xvs are better this time. Usuqlly it seems to be academy lads.

Anyone been watching any games today?

Last of group games on BBC now.

I've been watching Seabelo Senatla since his u-20's days and have always considered him a wonderful prospect. I would be delighted if Leinster signed him as I could see him being a top-quality started for years to come. He has absolutely devastating finishing ability.

So New Zealand, Australia, Samoa and South Africa through to the semis.

Wales and England presumably kicking themselves.

Just back from my 2nd of 3 sessions at Ibrox, will be back again tonight. South Africa looking pretty impressive, could hand New Zealand their first ever loss in Commonwealth Games 7's IMO

Shame that crowd favourites Barbados did not pick up a win :(

All the channel hopping is a bit irritating, the sevens keeps getting moved around between the various red button feeds and BBC3\BBC1.

They left the feed last night to show a single Judo match featuring a Scottish lad, thus skipping the Sri Lanka vs PNG game. They returned to the sevens with the pundits enthusiastically reporting on how much of zinger the SR/PNG game was and how fantastic the crowd had been! They mentioned it again this morning. I would have liked to have seen that, it would have been more entertaining than the 50+ to nil thrashings being handed out in the previous matches.

BTW on my sky box the red button feeds are coming through on channels 980-986 which is handy if you didn't know.

Final between new Zealand and south Africa will be shown on BBC 1 at 9.30. I think SA might just take it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,935 ✭✭✭✭bilston

Final starting now on BBC 1

South African with bad shoulder injury.
    Ibrox nearly full for this

Gold for South Africa. Out of interest was that the biggest ever attendance at a rugby match in Glasgow?

I would have thought so. There is real potential for Glasgow rugby to tap into if they can continue the progress they have made in the last couple of years.

Scotland have played at Hampden Park in the past but don't think it was full so probably this was the biggest attendance. John Inverdale kept talking about record of 180,000 watching the 7's. Were there 4 ticketed sessions over 2 days and could you not watch a full day's play with one ticket?

Was checking out tickets for other sports and all the daytime events seemed be split into two sessions.

Yes you are right, 4 sessions with stadium cleared between sessions. I was at both sessions yesterday and 1 on Saturday, so 3 tickets needed. The cost of tickets for 1 session was about the same as a ticket for a whole day at the Glasgow 7's. This was a much bigger success though, they struggle to sell out Scotstoun for the Glasgow 7's

First time watching 7's really enjoyed it. Wal beaten in the last play twice poor sods

I think they were looking at a female team, but I don't think it's a runner. No male team will be entered.

You don't just 'enter a team' and roll up, you need to qualify and at the moment we have put ourselves so far behind in this game that qualification would be extremely unlikely.
