Buying a 2013 car - any point spending money on checks?

I was looking at some 2013 cars today in various dealers today (not private), and was wondering if there would be any point spending money on a mechanic to check them over?

Would it be money wasted on such a young car that would still be under manufacturers warranty?

    What about a car check?

For my last car I gladly paid for a mechanic to check it out, but it was an 08 and I wanted it for piece of mind, but wondering if I am being overly cautious on a 1yr old car.

If it is being sold by a fairly large, well established and reputable dealer backed up by a fairly comprehensive warranty then I probably would be confident after a good test drive and look around that it was mechanically sound to proceed. I would however still do a car history and finance check on it though for peace of mind as you never know.

If it is being sold by an unknown or small time dealer then I'd tend to get the car mechanically checked out as it can be hard work chasings some of these guys to honour any warranty work. Also remember that there can be a lot of stuff that can go wrong that is not covered by the manufacturer's warranty. A lot of this can be down to the car having a hard life or not maintained properly by the previous owner. That then leaves you having to deal with the selling dealer rather than the manufacturer.

I'm looking to buy a car privately, but am a bit wary as it seems like a good deal. I'm obviously going to test drive it and check it out, but I'd want a mechanic to look at it properly. The problem is it's the other side of Dublin so I can't ask the seller to drive to my local mechanic. Are there other mechanic services that will check over a car around Dublin?

A new car can be crashed within a mile and a lightly used one may never have even been serviced.

    Check any new car carefully.

When i traded in a 2010 golf for a new one it had been damaged 4 times in 18 months .. so check bodywork carefully wont show up in history reports ..
