Had you a history of shopping with them (or associated sites, they have about ten brandnames)? Have you returned (m)any items to them in the past? Did they ask about employment status and age or not?

I'd also suspect they use a UK credit firm such as Experian/Equifax rather than the ICB, these can have completely different records - often hugely incomplete, but include things you'd never imagine. At least one of them does actually trade in Ireland and holds records on Irish people; I don't know how its legal under data protection considering the ICB is statutory though.

If they didn't run a Experian/Equifax/similar check, there's obviously some risk associated with your age/job status/location that they don't want to take. Usually with these kind of places if you buy a few items on full payment they will extend credit then.

I wouldn't worry - Oxendales, Littlewoods etc make their money from giving credit and charging extortionate interest fees. (39.9%)

    Couple of reasons -
If you have a good credit record and are a good earner, its likely you will pay them before they will charge you interest, so they are not interested in the hassle of an account for €15.

    Or
The small amount of €15 threw up a couple of flags that did not match with your profile and therefore it was refused. - Try €200.

At the end of the day, these so called online retailers are really money lenders charging a rate double that of credit cards and five times that of personal loans. Do you really want to be part of them?

beware of this company.received a letter from them saying that my account is not in arears i have missed payments on at least 6 occassions.
this is totally n categorically false.
i have always ensured to pay monthly long before payment is due.
i will be contacting the financial ombudsman about this very serious matter.
is this another example of BIG BROTHER.
rest assured they will be sorry.
