1990 Ford Sierra classic insurance

    Hi, I bought a 1990 Ford Sierra 1.6 sapphire, the car is 24 years old now and I'm 25 so it is a candidate for classic insurance.

    But what I am wondering is;
    Can the car defiantly be insured as a classic because my friend has told me recently that the criteria for classic insurance has changed ( so apparently the car has to be 20+ years old and meet some other standard to be insured as a classic)

    And

    Do every insurance company offer classic insurance of do I have to call a specialist?( recommendations welcome :-D)

    Thanks in advance for any answers

    No other standard should apply, you're car is sufficiently old enough for classic insurance but not tax. Unfortunately I can't tell you who to call for a quote because I've yet to get my classic insured:(

    You should have no problem getting insurance on a 1990 car.

    Check the sticky at the top of this forum for companies, the most common would be AXA, Carole Nash and First Ireland

    you wont get classic insurance as your first car though..you'll need another insured as your main car to qualify

    I understand that alright, i currently have an avensis as a day to day driver so im safe there....i hope :-P. Called axa there and it turns out that they want the cars to be 25 years old for classic insurance, but the girl i was talking to was sound and said since the car is 24 years old that they might make an exception because its only 1 year. but unfortunately i decided to call on a saturday and the classic insurance department is closed, so i will most likely get a call on monday with a quote (if i can get one at all), but ill keep ye posted on carole nash and first ireland because their offices are closed today till monday and let ye know what axa want for insurance

    You will and I have in the past. Wasn't cheap mind, but it was an agreed value, fixed mileage (10k), classic car policy. It was with First Ireland.

    Now when I got a cheap modernish hack and insured that on a standard motor policy and moved the rest to second car status with FI, the premium dropped for the classic car policy by quite a lot.

    Axa will cover a 1990 Sierra. I happen to know because a couple of years ago (maybe 4 or 5!) they covered my 1990 Sierra without any problem.

    I took out a standard motor policy with Axa back in 2007 on a then 34 year-old car (they don't seem to have an upper age limit themselves, but they do on some policies they underwrite for others). As it was my main vehicle, they wouldn't do it under one of their classic car policies.

    Phone Campion also - it will cost you about €250 to insure a 1990 with them.
