I don't want hijack the other thread. Have no real knowledge of bikes. Looking at around 1000 mark , 100 or so above if recommended. Mainly for commuting, leisure cycles etc,

Some one recommended Canyon to me. Is there any stockists in Dublin or is it just online? Does the scheme work online (I search a previous thread , it seems to)?

Is there any other recommended bikes?

    Thanks

What kind of bike though? Hybrid or pure racer? As far as I know you can only buy Canyon online which means they are a no go for the BTWS. How long is the commute?

If you're aware that there are plenty of other threads on this and the amount that you are spending is the same as that in the other threads too, why not just use the advice given on the other threads?

Commute is only about 8k each way. Would like to get out on it for leisure aswell.

The ones I was looking at were old enough, just checking if there is anything new recommended from those in the know.

Was just checking if anyone knew about canyon / bike to work scheme as well, as I couldn't find a definitive answer.

    Thanks

Yes you can buy Canyon on BTW and I did this. Invoice from Canyon to employer and they paid by bank transfer or cheque - can't remember which.

I bought a bike from Canyon via the scheme. Others on here have done likewise. There scheme does not prohibit foreign purchases. The way in which certain employers administer the scheme might. This can vary from employer to employer though.

Good to know! I thought that online purchases may have caused issues.

OP, unless you are going to get into road cycling/racing I am not sure a racer is the best choice for an 8km commute. A Hybrid may suit you better.

What would be the difference between the two? Just googled it. The handle bars is the only thing that sticks out (I dont really know much about bikes!).

The bike I commute in on now is fairly old. 5 + years but appears to be a racer style bike.

I live in Dublin, I doubt be I'd getting into racing, but I do abit of cycling, out the coast road, up howth hill etc

Will you keep it up during the winter. If so a Cyclocross or touring bike might be a better option in that they can fit wider tyres (better traction in the winter) and mudguards better then a road bike.

Yeah ill keep at it during winter. I'd be a fairly hardened commuter at this stage, I just dont know alot about bikes!! The current bike is on its last legs. I like the racer style bikes.

Not technical at all but I like the matte black look on bikes. Are cube a good brand does anyone know? Or any other brand names I should look out for?

I bought a Canyon Road lite (full ultegra component set) without the BTWS and still worked out cheaper than a similarly spec'd bike in Ireland with the BTWS. My company restricted the scheme. Very happy with everything about the Canyon.
I broke one of my shifters after 18 months and the sent me out a new set.
    There measurement system was comprehensive.
