Hi, my wife came home from work yesterday with a loud knocking noise coming from driver side wheel arch while turning the wheel.
I think it may be the spring or shocks.
What kind if money are we talking about to have them replaced?
    99 ford focus
    Thanks.

Thanks for the quick response cabbage.
Would that be parts & labour?
The problem started as a light, intermittent rattling noise. Got worse yesterday after she drove over (hit?) a speed bump.

You'll be fine, drive away. But for the love of god, only go in a straight line!

    Just kidding, it'll be fine:p

just off the phone with cork city ford.
They said the CV joint cant be replaced on its own, the whole shaft would need to be replaced @ €625 + VAT
Wouldn't get €700 for the car on the market!

Don't go to a main dealer.
Without knowing what engine you have its hard to guess but Mister Auto have J and R CV joints UK have brand new ones for 35 stg.

I have been using one of their CV joints for 2 years now and over 50k miles no problems.
labour to fit probably 1-1.5hrs being generous.

A joke. Someone here will recommend a good indy in the area I'm sure. And you will be looking at a fraction of that quote.

Never used them before, wanted a dealer quote before I go looking for an independent garage. Only moved to Cork recently so dont have a go-to guy yet.

    Thanks.

Are you sure its not a broken coil spring that would be a lot more common than a cv joint.
Can you hear the noise when the car is stationry ??

The noise is when the steering is turning, when stationary and when moving.

Its a coil spring so jack it up and you will see the spring broke either top or bottom

Spring broke at the top. Thanks Martin.
Anyone able to recommend someone in Cork City to replace both springs for me?

There's a chap on Model Farm Road who does odds-and-ends for me, he seems to know what he's at and his prices are decent enough. English fella.
