At this stage we're under review since march, latest email saying its going to review panel, this was 2 weeks ago, they won't even tell me if we're still coverd.
Checking status on-line is a joke look at this...

Sent renewal form off back in mid Feb,expired end of March, only told us on 16th of May of missing information which was faxed into them & we received an email on the 17th to confirm they got info.
Rang them up last week & were told we were priority ( which i never believed anyway)
Then today they rang to say it's gone to medical officer & didn't know how long it will take

I wonder do they not believe that people are sick when doctors/consultants letters are being sent in with forms & have to sent everything to medical officers or just creating more work for themselves

They received my renewal forms on March 18th. I sent an email last Friday asking for an update on application and received an email today stating I was granted medical card.

Was just about to start a tread on this, they received the additional info they were looking for on the 8th of May, it was scanned in that day, its just waiting for someone to look at it since then.

Also I wont get a refund for all the doctor money that I've paid out unless the card has the date after it expired as it valid from date.

Stress is killing us, my 2 year old has development issues and consultants keep asking for more referral letters from the GP which all cost money. I even asked could they just forget about the full medical card and give up the GP only card that they were going to give us in March, but they said that would also be in the same queue.

Every few days the status changes to call up by April to we need more info to Application on hold pending additional information. I really feel they just want you to give up. It would be so much easier if I didn't work, it was the payslips and creche receipts that held it all up.

For anyone coming up to renewal, do not believe the letter that arrives and tells you that if you get the app back by x date you will have a decision made in time, this was never true.

Also still waiting. The headed letter from the estate agent didn't have a phone number, just a website address, so I had to write a letter saying I didn't want the review closed and get another letter from the estate agent....who looked at me like I was claiming rent allowance. Posted that on Friday so I'd expect it to be another 30 days until someone looks at it.

The people who process your application have no medical qualifications and therefore are not qualified to consider your medical problems. They carry out a financial assessment of your circumstances. If you fail this assessment, or only qualify for a GP visit card, they will forward your file to the HSE's medical officers who will also consider the financial burden your medical issues place on you. In these cases, you are above the income threshold and are not entitled to a card, however, the medical officer may use discretion and issue you with a discretionary medical/GP visit card.

The HSE have committed to a "15 day turnaround". This means that if you have submitted a fully completed application form, including all the required supporting documentation, you should receive a yes/no answer within 15 days. There are reports available on medicalcard.ie that show that the majority of the time they meet this commitment. Delays are experienced when there is further information required because, for example, a document submitted is not sufficient. In such cases, they will request additional information. When you send in your additional information it joins a queue to be processed. The length of the queue varies from one week to six weeks depending on the workload. Therefore, it is worth spending the time to ensure you are sending in the correct documentation as if you have to send in additional information a second or third time you rejoin at the back of the queue.

I applied online on the 19th of may and got a ref number. I gathered up all the relevant docs 28 to be precise and sent them in. Rang 2 weeks later and was told all forms had been processed etc. No additional information was requested. Online it stated if you do not hear anything by the 29th of June to contact them. I have been ringing every day since and each day is a different thing. Ring late next week was yesterday's answer.
Today is the 23rd of july 2 months and still nothing.

Had to give in today and pay 144 euro for meds. Beans on toast for the week for us.

    15 day turnaround my arse.

Got it last Thursday.... March to July for a review, probably cost more to review my card than it will ever cost the government while I have one...
