Hi guys I'm looking for some saga mega drive games. I just recently bought an old mega drive like the one I had as a kid and now need something to play on it. I used to love the micro machines games.

Ebay, adverts.ie and the Arcade and Retro marketplace sub forum which you can see above the threads in this forum.

Also check out the Everdrive MD cartridge which lets you download games to an SD card and play practically any mega drive game that exists except virtua racing.

It can even play master system games and sime game gear ganes.

Hi guys I'm looking for some saga mega drive games. I just recently bought an old mega drive like the one I had as a kid and now need something to play on it. I used to love the micro machines games.

If you're in Dublin, there is a shop on Talbot Street opposite the Supervalu that sells old books, DVD's, games etc, and they have mega drive games for sale.

Seeing those old games when I was in the shop made me hunt for my old mega drive II in the attic of my family home, found it, still boxed, but can't find any of the games I owned as a kid!

Tried turning it on, after I hooked it up, but it doesn't appear on the TV, question for you if you don't mind, does anything normally appear if there is no cartridge in the machine? I can't recall this from back in the day!

    Cheers

Nope, you'll just get a black screen.
Do yourself a massive favour and go and buy a copy of Sonic link and go onto Ebay and buy a RGB cable for the Megadrive as well, it makes all the difference in terms of picture, link

The shop you mention is Bookmart and Games Exchange, or as well like to call it,
Bookmart and gameSexchange, for reasons that escape me now but that seemed like a good idea at the time,

If you want to sell them to each other, please do so in our Arcade and Retro Marketplace, sales and offers of sales are prohibited here in the regular forum and in the Marketplace everything is on thread and safer for all users.
However, we have zero control over what goes on outside these forums altogether, but be aware there will be no complaints about behaviour or other nonsense as it would be beyond our remit to moderate.

You misunderstand, there's no problem at all!
Please, do your deal, if you can help him out!
I was just asking that, in fitting with the rules, that it be done over on your friendly, neighbourhood A&R Marketplace, thanks

Are the games in the Talbot St shop still mega expensive?

Op, hunting around car boots sales is an option but oftentimes a fruitless endeavour.

Sunday markets have moved on a few generations now.
It's all PS2, Xbox, 360 and the occasional GC.
The place on Talbot st isn't bad price wise.
They are on Facebook as well and quite happy to give you prices there too for the stuff you're after.

They can be ..but ask if theyve any unboxed games ..might be some behind the counter.they usually do em for a cheaper price. Retropolis in camden st and super hoshi in twisted pepper are decent too..rage in fade st is good but a little pricey..
..might have some loose meg carts to trade( for nes stuff) or sell..ill have a look..

Super Hoshi is the business, and great value too.
He's not open the whole time so call first.
Well worth a look, and they're on Facebook so you can save on a journey if there's nothing that tickles your fancy.

Retropolis is on Adverts only, the store is closed down. Hoshi's Facebook is listing them as permanently closed and there's not been an update since mid-March.

You could just emulate the games, and then you will possibly realise they're not anywhere near as good as you thought. I have ruined so many memories of games because I couldn't resist trying them out. Stunt Car Racer, a game I've loved all my life just isn't all that I remembered it.

You're just playing the wrong games.

I have to dash, I pick up and play Stunt Car Racer from time to time and it's still the business.
And while there are some games that have dated badly, early efforts of 3D on the Playstation for example, others haven't dated at all, Super Mario World and Sonic 2 for example.

Oh, and emulation is rarely accurate, and a game is never the same when played with a PC pad or keys via a modern display, original hardware on a old fashioned TV via RGB, it's the only way to play.

The RAGE on Fade St is your best bet if you're looking for a brick & mortar store in Dublin. People often complain about the prices but not everything is crazy expensive and most people have picked something up from there at some point or another. Always nice to see what you're buying in person before handing your money over too.

To be honest I'd be happier with Adverts, there might be the occasional messing about but if you are looking for decent value you'll strike up a deal for Megadrive games there.

    I really wish I could agree :(

There is barely anything reasonably priced. Since they've opened I think I've only actually bought two games. Which is mad when you think about it!

And as I mentioned in another thread, the way they have all their Sega stuff means the spines get bleached by the sun. Have a look next time you're in there.

I'm pretty happy with what I've picked up in the R.A.G.E, but the prices have doubled since I first bought from them. My cousin picked up Donkey Kong Country for me when it was €15ish and the DKC games are now €30 each loose. I picked up Sonic Adventure 2 for the Dreamcast recently for €12. I've seen it go for less but lately its been going for around €30. It's worth a look if you're passing, but most of it will be around the mid-high range of ebay prices.

I'm surprised anyone's still asking a price-tag for that yolk considering there's only a 3rd of it that would be considered a fully realized game and even at that, is littered with many instances of poor hit registration and wonky command cues. It is fantastic for those 9 seconds it's not annoying you with something, though. Do not ask me why I stuck with it to the very end, other than building up moan-fodder.

And that is why I prefer Mario games!
At least they feel like they've been crafted, rather than thrown together like Sonic games have been.
I tried to like the Sonic games on the Wii, Secret Rings and Black Knight, but like everyone else, I just can't.
Colors seems to the the high water mark in terms of post Megadrive games, and after some 20 years since Sonic 3, that's something of concern.
In fact, it's arguable that the best games featuring the blue hedgehog are not by Sonic Team at all, but by Sumo, with Sonic & Sega Allstar Racing and it's sequel being superb racing titles.

I don't recall much about it tbh. I didn't have a Dreamcast and only played bits of it with my cousin.

I enjoyed Sonic Heroes back in the day, so I'm sure I can at least grin and bear it, ha.

As for the pricing, I guess it's just par for the course when buying the bigger names, "it's Mario/Donkey Kong/Sonic/etc. so it's worth more"

Yeah, have to give a +1 for The Rage. Have picked up quite a bit from there recently and the lads are happy to give bundle prices when buying a few games at once. Prices aren't as insane as folks on here will have you believe, considering it's a brick & mortar shop selling the likes of Mega Drive games in 2014! :-)

I've had some really shoddy experiences on Adverts and have made a point of only dealing with people with over 50 feedback from here on out. Hopefully that'll curb the morons on there from crossing my path again.

You hear of the odd bargain, but in general, I find the RAGE stock to be overpriced & a lot of the time in bad condition. They offered me €29.95 for a boxed FZ1 3DO there a while back, something they're retailing for €130. With a model like that, you don't need people on the internet generating bad publicity for you, you're doing it all yourself.

Yeah, 'cause you'd go into CEX and they'd give you a discount on a "bundle" of games you're looking to buy??! Ha! :P
