right of way

    We live near a esb resivour and have a small road down to lake near our house it is not public and there is no right of way. There is a road along the lake with an access point 2km up the river. The esb want to fence the the bottom of our road near the lake and put in a gate. Am leaving myself open for future right of way?? or can I stop them doing this ?
