    Hi,

someone suggested this in the most recent "have not read the books thread"
It would basically be a way of splitting this forum in two, those that have read the book can post there or post here with no spoilers, I for one under-use this forum as I am terrified of spoilers, especially in the non "have not read the book threads"

Do people agree with this? we can bring it to a mod etc if so.

What are you suggesting exactly? An entirely new ASOIAF subforum with the current 'Game of Thrones' one to be exclusively for the TV show with no book talk? Or just a single thread to contain all book stuff?

I wouldn't be in favour. This place is mostly deserted between seasons and the majority of book talk is in relation to the TV show. Would be hard to justify the creation of a new subforum in terms of potential traffic. Any exclusive book threads containing spoilers are always clearly marked as such.

However, we have seen in recent weeks that it is easy to get the reader/non-reader episode threads mixed up so perhaps something could be done with the titles to make it easier to differentiate between them such as a colour coded prefix like those used in Help Desk for example.

    From the charter:

"Also bear in mind, this is to discuss the TV series fresh. You should take it for granted that people commenting on this thread HAVE NOT read the books. If you have read the book and wish to talk about how it compares to the book (etc), please use these threads in Sci-Fi & Fantasy Season 1 | Season 2 (Warning: Major spoilers for all books in this thread... you have been warned!)"

Would be too quiet tbh. There are already forums to discuss the book. The unique thing about this board is that we as book readers can enter discussion on the televised aspect of the series without fear of trolls ruining the experience for everyone. I myself rarely if ever post in the non-readers threads but I like to peruse them - some of you are extremely perceptive and I am 100% sure had I not read the books I wouldn't know half as much as you do about the series!

There's way too much book discussion in this forum. This forum is titled "Game of Thrones" in the Television section.

There should be one thread per episode for readers to discuss how the episode differs from the same events in the book. All other discussion should be banned.

The only problem here is the forum generally dies without the readers posting in it in the show's off season regarding theory etc.

You see very little if any show discussions passed June in this forum from what can be seen from the thread activity.

Other than an anally retentive desire to see all threads in the technically correct forum, there's really no merit in this idea.

There's 3 or 4 common neutral threads (Artwork, Funnies and so on), there's the weekly thread on the episode but other than that the vast majority of threads are for book readers.

If you were to place the TV threads on their own they'd merit one combined thread inside Arts/Television/Television and no sub forum.

    OR

we could devolve into tribes of

    Good people of the Book
    Bookless Heathens
the ambivalent ones beyond the Great firewall
and those travellers of the eastern sea of titties.

each side will set out its quite reasonable terms for how their kingdom should be run.

things might go swimmingly for a while.

Then we'll open a simple chat thread one evening and find a LoLcats head stitched on calex's body and everyone will agree that things got just a little out of hand

There has been plenty of us able to discuss the book during seasons and between seasons in the various book readers only threads.

There just seem to be a few that frequent this forum when the show is on who are intent on ruining it for others.

Well, is that not also the case for every subforum for seasonal shows in the Television category?

I just had a quick look at the Walking Dead forum, and there hasn't been much activity since March/April, when the current season ended.

I see one thread for discussion of the comic books, which seems adequate (although to be fair, I've heard that the show does not follow the comics anywhere near as closely as GoT follows ASoIaF).

I don't think it's anally retentive to want a forum for a TV show to be primarily concerned with the TV show, and not its source material.

I reckon a lot of viewers don't post here because they've been forced out (for lack of a better phrase) by book readers, and I think that's wrong.

A ridiculous statement. It's one of the most popular TV shows around right now - I think it merits its own forum.

Maybe if the place hadn't been hijacked by book readers, more show viewers would post here?

Could the admins not just split us off a reader sub forum here and let this main forum die from June to April

If you want more show discussion than book discussion, create some content. Barring the episode threads which have a shelf life of 10-12 weeks, this forum's content is driven by the readers. By forcing them out, you would negate the need for a forum and could all be bundled into a superthread in the general TV section.

Nobody is stopping the show watchers from creating threads and content, there just seems to be no appetite to do so. Whilst I agree that the show watchers have some valid gripes with pricks trying to be clever and spoiling stuff for them, stuff like the above is jumping the shark. Both can coexist with vigilant moderation of show watcher threads

I think the new update says it perfectly, readers just post about the show and the show only, I don't think readers should dismiss or confirm theories even If it's show based, leave that to the non readers.

Follow there rules and There's no reason we can't all get along.

We could put in a forum request for A Song of Ice and Fire forum. It'll probably be under Sci-Fi & Fantasy though. There are plenty of readers posting here to support it.

Obviously, if we get our own forum, book spoilers of any kind shouldn't be tolerated in the show forum. I think it would be the best way to go. Trying to keep readers and non-readers separated at all times in the same forum just seems so unnecessary to me.

A lot of book readers started out as show viewers, myself included.

There are plenty of book only threads here, clearly marked that aren't ruining anything for anyone.

Just when the show is on, there seems to be a few that purposely and wrongly start ruining it for others.

Split the forum might be for the best so, but I doubt it will solve anything, if a poster wants to ruin the show for people, a sub forum isn't exactly going to prevent them from posting in the tv part of the forum.

I believe it was my suggestion in locked thread. What I was suggesting was creating an ASOIAF sub-forum in the Sci-fi & Fantasy Forum as separate to the Game of Thrones sub-forum in the Television forum.

Threads relating to characters/incidents from A Dance With Dragons really don't have any place in the TV forum, yet at least.

I'm just at the start of A Storm Of Swords now, having had the Red Wedding, the Purple Wedding and the two key plot movements in the coming episode spoiled for me over the last year or so, I'm taking matters into my own hands, literally.

I think with GOT being so huge if you so much as connect to the internet you're at risk of spoilers sadly.

Thought about this for a bit and the only problem with asking for a new forum is..

Will it be a book forum or a tv show forum for readers?

If it's ASOIAF forum under Sci-Fi and Fantasy we want, then it's not really for the show.

It might have to be a 'Readers' subforum here where we can discuss the books and the TV show from a book reader's view.
