Problem with RTE1 on Saorview

    Hi
For the last number of days I have been having trouble with RTE1 on Saorview.
It happens at 6pm for approx 1 hour, works ok up to that, then works again for another while and then around 10pm goes again.
What happens is the picture keeps freezing and restarting, the jumps to "No Signal" then I get picture and sound for a few minutes and then freezes again.
Any help or info would be appreciated.

PS It is a Triax TR112 Saorview box.

Forgot to add, it only happens with RTE1, all other channels work ok.

If the problem is only occuring at the same specific times every day, that would seem to suggest a source of interference that is occuring during these times, maybe some electrical equipment on a time switch or otherwise on a regular schedule. Maybe in your house, maybe a neighbour.

The fact it only affects RTE1 would suggest that your signal for Saorview multiplex 2 is weaker than for multiplex 1, & so is more susceptible to the interference.

Thanks for the reply Marduk, just to update:

    1. No neighbours, so should be no interference that way.
    2. I use a TP Link TL-MR3420 for broadband in the house and I turn this on when I get home from work.
    3. As of last night, all I get from RTE 1 is "No signal", all other stations work fine.

... As of last night, all I get from RTE 1 is "No signal", all other stations work fine.

Probably just a general problem with the 2nd Saorview multiplex (mux 2) then, & the seeming time relatedness was just coincidence.

In an autosearch, some receivers can put weak out-of-area transmissions in the top spots in the channel list but, Saorview approved receivers like the TR112, should only store the channels with the best signal.

So the problem is more than likely with your aerial system: the aerial itself, cables, connections etc. Might not have been up to the job to begin with (maybe you're just using an indoor set-top type?), or may have deteriorated since installation.

I'm having a similar issue with RTE1. Each of the other 7 channels work perfectly, but RTE1 is often quite scrambled.

My ariel is kept in the attic and this issue has only begun in the last week.

RTE1 is sometimes watchable, but often there is almost no signal. I tried reinstalling the channels.

Any suggestions would be greatly welcome

Don't know about last week, but this week there could be a chance of weather-related interference from distant transmitters.

Other than that, I've nothing to add to what's already been posted. Faults that develop suddenly in an aerial system would typically be due to water ingress (unlikely in your case, with the aerial in the attic) or by someone damaging or loosening a connection, say at the TV or in the attic.

    Sorted, did a full rescan.

I can't get RTE and the other Mux2 channels. I used to get it before I moved the aerial into the attic. I hear from another post that using a distribution amplifier might help. Can anyone explain how this works?

A distribution amplifier will only distribute what you have, it won't add what you don't have.

Where was the aerial before you moved it to the attic?

The amplifier, located as close to the aerial as possible, boosts a weak received signal to compensate for further signal loss down the cable to the receiver's tuner. If the signal quality is bad when it arrives at the amplifier it won't make a bad signal good.

Some people maybe just scanning one multiplex frequency and not realising that the second multiplex channel frequency is normally 3 away.

Seen problems with RTE1 from both Woodcock hill and Mullaghanish the last few days Mux 1 much weaker in strength

I am also having issues getting a lock on RTE 1 and RTE Junior over the last few days/maybe 10 days or so .
All other channels are fine but no matter how many rescans I do I can't pick up RTE 1 or Junior.

Could be down to the current atmospheric conditions (Tropospheric ducting) combined with your aerial pulling in a weak signal on the frequency carrying those channels.

Can anyone tell me the frequencies I should be on for Mt Leinster ?

Seems to be breaking up a good bit more lately.

    Saorview channels

    Mt Leinster 23 (490000) and 26 (514000) horizontal

On my Sony TV I sorted my channnels into the 800s
RTE 1 HD up until today was on 801 ---- today it was replaced by a test card.
For some unknown reason to me RTE 1 HD was where the same test card was on 820 !!
Easy to resolve but I hadn't shifted them around !!
    Mt Leinster transmitter.
    Regards

Is anyone else having this problem lately?

I know this thread is a few months old, but I have been having this problem solely with RTE1. I re-tuned the TV and the problem is persisting. The fact that no other channels are affected, and that this thread popped up from google, makes me think it might be an external issue.

It's more than likely a deterioration in your own receiving aerial setup or it wasn't good enough to begin with.

Do you have an indoor set-top type aerial? Or maybe it's outdoors or in the attic?

Do you know which Saorview transmitter you are receiving from?

    We're receiving from Three Rock.

I'm in an apartment building so I have no idea where the aerial is I'm afraid. I just plug the cable into our wall socket and hope for the best. I know there was a re-tuning required for RTE1 HD recently, as per the sticky, but I've re-tuned a number of times. I guess I should ask some of the neighbours of their experiences tomorrow.

BTW, like the OP, this only happens in the evenings, but unlike the OP the times are less specific. It can happen any time after 6pm, generally.

Some of those flyleads are poorly screened, prone to picking up electrical interference. The seeming time-relatedness might be due to there being more interference-causing devices in use in the evening time.

It's even possible that there is no actual aerial, & you're in a strong enough signal area for a poorly screened flylead or the cables in the walls to work well enough as an aerial so as to deliver some sort of service.
