Tool to test Ethernet port connectivity

Any recommendations for tool that tells you if Ethernet port has network connectivity available? Something reasonably priced.

What type of port. On a switch, router or PC

It's not entirely clear what you want to achieve here.

If you suspect there's an Ethernet switch or a router connected to it on the other end then simply connect a PC to it and see if you get a connection. No fancy testing equipment needed.

Connect a laptop to it & use command prompt (ipconfig) to see if it picks up an IP - if it doesn't then it doesn't have connectivity & you need to patch the port to a switch

I found a solution using a smartphone + usb/rj45 connector.
