Pre-clearance GTW-DUB-SF

I will be flying from Gatwick to San Fran via Dublin in a few months. Just wondering whether I can do the pre-clearance at Dublin airport? I will be flying directly from there to US but obviously my flight 'package' technically starts in London? I know there's something about identifying your checked bag which I thought might be impacted by the fact that I will be checking it though from London?

    Thanks

If your US bound flight is direct from Dublin you will pre-clear here. You will have no choice. If your bag is checked all the way, I assume you are on Aer Lingus, you will be presented with a picture of your bag by the US border agent and you will have to say its yours. Then you are good to go!

Great thanks. Is it a straight forward enough experience or do I have a massive queue to look forward to?! Think I have 2 hours between London flight landing and San Fran one departing.

You should have plenty of time that time of the year. You will land in the Terminal 2, again I am assuming Aer Lingus, and just before passport control you will go into a transfer corridor. A quick scan of your DUB to SFO boarding pass and you will then be into the main departure area for T2. You will then clear a TSA check and then onto CBP. It sound long winded but it's not. I guarantee there will be a good few people on your flight doing exactly the same thing.
