Delegates at a Meath County board meeting discussed the possibility of changing the format of the O'Byrne Cup including excluding the college sides.

I was wondering if it is time to tweak these competitions i was thinking maybe splitting the country into North/South and putting the top 8 of each into one cup and the bottom 8 into another.

Might change the familiarity teams have with each other in these competitions plus giving teams more competitive games

    O'Byrne Cup could be

    Laois
    Dublin
    Kerry
    Mayo

    Galway
    Kildare
    Cork
    Wexford

    And the McGrath could be

    Offaly
    Limerick
    Clare
    London

    Wicklow
    Carlow
    Waterford
    Tipp

Likewise in the North the McKenna would be contested by

    Derry
    Down
    Roscommon
    Tyrone

    Donegal
    Meath
    Cavan
    Monaghan

    And the FBD

    Louth
    Antrim
    Westmeath
    Armagh

    Sligo
    Fermanagh
    Leitrim
    Longford

The Cups would be rotate so the top teams could be fighting out for McKenna or the FBD on any given year.

Mid week games could still be played between neighboring counties

Really these competitions are just warm up games and the public have virtually no interest.

You'd just be making teams travel a little further.
