Min cost for a seat on Chartered Flight Dublin -> Turkey ? (Antalya)

    Hi,

Does anyone know what the absolute min per seat cost that would have to be charged to just break even on a return flight Dublin -> Antalya.
ie. we have all seen occasional ridiculously-low headline grabbing fares from budget airlines. But I assume these are loss-leaders or a minority of seats which are balanced by selling the majority of seats at a higher price to bring the average seat price up to something economically viable.
So, if all seats on the plane were charged at the same price, what is the min that you could offer this trip for to just break even, assuming that you had the economies of scale that the big budget airlines do ?

    Thanks,

    Usjes.

Far too many variables to give you a guess on that.....

fuel costs and hedging, staff costs, handling contracts, aircraft lease/ownerships costs, MX costs, airport passenger fees, time of year,

these among others would vary from airline to airline so very hard to give you a figure.

When we do charters we charge per hour for the aircraft, so for us it doesnt make any difference if its empty half full or full.
We deal with brokers mostly who deal with the travel agencys.

Okay, so in your case, if it is a typical small plane (which I assume holds like 140 people) then flight time is ~4hours each way => cost per seat = (hourlyRate)*8/140, what does this work out at ? I am assuming that your hourly rate is for a fully equiped (with pilot etc) and fuelled plane ?

I'm trying to get an idea of a realistic figure ie. could you get 140 people to Turkey on a return flight for €150 a head or would it be more like €300 ? Or what ?

why not ring a few charter companies? Surely they'd know better than randomers on the internet??

    Interesting.

If the flight, for example, goes tech or has to divert who picks up the tab for the extra cost ?

    (a) Yourselves

    (b) Customer

    (c) Some sort of insurance

    (d) Other

As was said above there are to many variables - Is it a one off flight? What is the time between the outbound and return leg? Are you flexible with your dates/times etc. etc. These variable need to be known before any-price can even be considered.

    Hi BonkeyDonker,

That's why I am asking for the minimum possible costs, so assume the best case scenario for cost saving, ie off-season, arriving and departing at bad times (like 4am), having the economies of scale of one of the big budget carriers, etc, etc. How cheaply could it be done in theory to just cover costs ?
Obviously €0 is not a valid answer as the basic cost of fuel has to be >0 and pilot salary etc.

Have you been given a quote price a travel agent ex-DUB? The cost of charter flights usually is quite high compared to booking direct-scheduled - I'd recommend easyJet from either LGW/MAN to AYT.
