You can instal maps on the 800 for turn by turn navigation.

There is only €50 odd in the difference but based on what you described I'd stick with the 500

So I could input a route before I start? Ya maybe 500 is best,

500 is fine for my needs, I don't really need satnav on my bike tbh.

yeah plan a route and get turn by turn navigation. I have it on the 810 great feature but not sure if it would be used often by you

I'd go for the 800 over the 500 for a 50 yoyo diff, I currently have both as I have purloined my brothers 800 while he is sailing round the world. Both will suit your needs, and the breadcrumb navigation on the 500 has got me round several Audax with no issues...

That's a very good price for the 800 bundle. Main difference over the 800 is the navigation and bigger screen so you can have more data displayed. I got just the head unit last year on amazon lightning deals for the same price as the 500 head unit. I use the free open source maps they work well but the garmin ones are meant to be a little better.

The unit is a little bigger than I'd like the 500 is much neater but the navigation is very handy to have at times. Battery life is slightly better on the 500 and it can do turn by turn navigation if you pre load your course. For an extra €50 when maps are included I'd go for the 800.

Perfect, thanks. Just have to make sure the cadence is included with the 800.

OP do you have a smartphone? It'll do most of what you need for free.

Spend the money on stuff that will keep you cycling
    a backup wheelset
    spare tyres
    brake blocks
    spare chain
    tools for changing chain, cassette

Money no object buy it all!
