AGC Levels

Hi can anyone shed some light on this problem,
Most of my CH have SNR 85% AGC 99% BER 0 but some for example UTV HD & CH4 HD have AGC 2% - 5% (SNR 75% BER 0). I checked the dish with a signal meter and all was fine but while the signal meter was plugged in CH4 and UTV AGC levels went up to 97% once I removed it they went back down again. I changed the connectors at the lnb no joy I can't figure it out.

Has anyone else come across this before? Could it be the signal is too strong and I need attenuators?

    Thanks

If it's not affecting your actual viewing of programmes, I don't see where the need is to bother "figuring out" or doing anything.

If you use an attenuator, you will attenuate the weaker channels too.

The software on your box is not working correctly. The meter readings should be treated with a grain of salt anyhow (not literally).

When the channels start disappearing its an issue particularly if works on another box. HD Channels signify dust on the board usually around the main processor. A Simple hover or cold blow dryer (whilst plugged out!) will rectify the problem.

Is it an enigma type box ?

Thanks for the reply, BBC HD is fine yeah its a Aimko Ailen 2 running Hyperion V4 with a 64cm Triax Dish and a inverto ultra black quad lnb. Its a new install. I tried it on another dish and it was fine.

Picture and everything is perfect I know its no big deal was just wondering if anyone knew. I will check for dust.

I just thought that the fact all readings were OK with the sat finder connected it must have been providing some antenuation

What do you think is wrong with the 2% - 5% AGC readings? (You seem to understand AGC = Automatic Gain Control.)

Does the SNR improve with the sat. meter in-line?

SNR stays the same, nothing wrong just wondering why all the other CH are 97-99% and the above CH are only when the Meter is in line. I read on another forum if the signal is too strong for the tuner the AGC will compensate and give lower readings.

That's what AGC is supposed to do, maintain a certain signal level.

I would think if the tuner is overloaded, there would be noticeable disturbances in viewing.

Well you have 2 varieties of polarisation there UTV HD (H) & CH4 (V) so its not a polarisation issue.

Its just a false meter reading. Those Aliens are running ported versions of E2, so these glitches will show up. If its a brand new box, its not a dust issue. As the other poster says, if its not affecting the signal then dont wouldn't worry about it. You could try and re-image the box again and see if it shows true readings.

I run E2 on a VU+ and Gigablue and have 100% SNR on the stronger TPs without AGC kicking. I have never seen overload on any dvb-s2 tuner.

Cheers for that ah I will hold off till the next update to flash it again.
How do you find the Gigablue? I was thinking of getting one of these myself.

I think that he will say that he likes it and that it is much better value than the VUs. I think he might also say that the latest Vix image (Apollo) is not working on it.

He has one of the latest models from the plus range, UE plus I think.

I have the 800SE and have no issues with it at all. Bought from World of Sat using Parcel Motel.

    :)
