Hi, just after converting an old wooden playhouse at home into a chicken coop and we had a new wooden floor put into it as the floor was in bad shape. I'm looking for suggestions for a type of covering to put down over the wooden flooring to stop it roting.

    Any suggestions would be appreciated!

18mm wpb plywood will do just nicely for the floor. then install a piece of damp proof coarse sheet so that this aids cleaning out old hay, stray and chicken poo.
my wife just built a large 6 hen chicken coop from scratch.1 large nest box on each side and each nest box is then divided into 3 sections for each hen to lay in.frame built from pressure treated 2 x 2 wood and then externally clad with 150 x 22mm pressure treated cladding.she also installed 2 perches inside for the hens to sit on.
you will need to seal the gaps on the inside to prevent and protect from red mites.these nasty little fookers will lay millions of eggs and then they feed of the hens bloody system causing them to die.you will also have to spray for them on a regular basis too.we do this on a regular basis and we have no problems with them now,we get 6 fresh eggs each and every day. yummy
our hens are ex battery hens aswell so we have saved them from death and given them a new lease of life. we rescued them from being made into dog food and now they love having free range of the back of our garden.
