I know Littlefingers has always been all over the place, but does anyone else notice them being a bit off with some of the other characters too? In tonights episode, Jon and Sam at the start sounded a bit off, same with Tormund when he was telling his bear story. Not to the same extent Aiden Gillen, but they just felt off

I think people put too much blame of Aidan Gillen for the accent, he's obviously been told to play it that way. I don't think D&D said 'Well we're making a multi million dollar show here Aidan but sure do it whatever way you like'. If they weren't happy with it they would tell him to correct it.

I've noticed Jon's accent being slightly more Americanised this year, he just doesn't sound like he used of in previous seasons.

It changes a fair bit though, when he talks about cutting Danys throat he sounds like an English chav

It must be ok in their eyes or they'd cut the scene and do it again.

    RE: Littlefinger

It's not so much the meandering accent that bothers me, it's the weird affected way of speaking that began in season 3 and has only got worse this season.

A lot of the accents in this are all over the place to be honest. There are so many characters and so little screen time that their accents are being used as characterization to an excessive degree. Every character is putting on some kind of voice so it sounds odd from time to time. Sansa and Arya annoy me the most, quasi-posh-british-american. Sam's constant clueless voice really started to grate in the most recent episode.

Their accents aren't too far removed from how their actresses actually speak. That's more because they're younger and don't have the experience of people like Richard Madden and Rory McCann who changed their accents pretty well.

I think we noticed little fingers more because the actor is Irish and because he says so many words compared to other actors.

The change in accent doesn't bother me but with little fingers it is very distracting I think he's the only character I notice.

What accent should they have, considering this takes place in another universe?

Jons accent changed after spending time with the wildlings. (Like those eejits who go to the USA on a J1 and come back speaking American, but not as whiny).

Sams voice changes when he gets more confident snd stops letting his worrying be his main force.

I think little fingers accent is intentionally "not quite right" and changes depending on who he is around and where he is.

Honestly the only accents that bother me are Aiden's (and the weird way he talks out of the side of his mouth) and Nikolaj's (still sounding as Danish now as he did in the first episode).

I didnt notice he had a Danish accent in Season 1. I do think its a little more pronounced now. Its very subtle though. When you hear him in interview he sounds far more Danish.

Tryions accent bothers me occasionally when he sounds very american.

I thought Littlefingers accent changes were deliberate, part of the charade of who he is.

I guess it's just down to opinion then, I don't think he sounds subtle at all. To me he sounds Danish with, at the most, a slight English twang.

    Yeah.

I think once you notice it you cant unnotice it as well.

Agree on Littlefinger's accent, think Gillen has made some boo-boos in the last couple of years. I remember seeing him for the first time in the Wire as Carcetti and thought he was excellent. Saw him recently in Calvary and thought his accent was horrendous (not sure, but I think it was supposed to be a country accent of some sort. The entire film was pure muck too!). Also thought it was gash in the few minutes of Love/Hate that I've managed to watch so far.

Thought the Hound's accent in the last episode he was in sounded less 'Scottish' than usual, too.
