What do people mean when they say "done 200k" in relation to used bikes?

If it were a car, it would mean so many thousand miles (or km).

But 200,000 miles is just a tad too much for even the most enthusiastic cyclist to have done in a year.

OTOH it couldn't possibly be 200km either, surely?

A-ha, OK, the obvious answer I guess ... 200km just seemed like way too little use to me, unless the bike had been built up just last week, as opposed to last year.
