Make-up tutorial/class in Dublin

With my hunt for make-up almost complete, I wanted to complete the present with a voucher for a Dublin-based make-up tutorial.

I know there's plenty of tutorials on YouTube - which she does refer to - but I'd say she'd like to do something more hands-on even once to help get some more personalised tips and advice.

Ideally it would be targeted at someone who knows the basics but could benefit from some specific info; and would be a few hours to a day long (definitely not the courses that seem to be available around the place)

Any recommendations of a good place in or around Dublin city?

I've had a few results from a Google search but I've no idea of how good or bad they are.

    Thanks!

Most of the make up schools have such courses that come up from time to time but they generally need to be booked ahead of the time and they can be pricy. A few VEC's also have evening courses which are cheap enough; maybe you could pay for one of them approaching the winter?

What you could also do is to bring her for a in store make over. Most of the cosmetic counters do make overs for a small fee which is refundable against purchases that day. She gets to learn about the brand that she likes, a professional application with a load of tips and a chance to buy at a discounted rare; it's win win win :)

I'm not sure if there are any one-day courses available but I did come across this one by LA Academy - http://www.lacollegeofcreativearts.com/courses-short-term/category/make-up-courses/make-up-101/

Its not cheap at €250 though.

Would you consider asking a MUA to do a one-on-one session with your partner for a fee?

Just had a quick look there now and found these, not sure what help they will be to you though.

http://www.kenboylan.com/ - they offer private make up lessons, no idea on prices though.

Thanks - hadn't considered either options, will give them a look

    Hrm... that's pricey alright!

Stupid question, but is there any easy way to find good make up artists? Google again?

Facebook and Instagram are good places to look; plenty of make up artists of varying degrees of skill have pages on either format.

To link up my first point, most reps at cosmetic counters will have some make up training; ask a few of them if they can help you out privately.

Make Up Forever on Clarendon Street do classes. It's a professional shop that caters for regular high standard make up, but also do supplies for special effects make up (e.g. for fake scarring). I think they do 1:1 classes, they definitely do basic and advanced classes but not completely sure of what they cover. Maybe give them a ring and see. Their own make up line and accessories are pretty good quality too.

Thanks - had a quick look online and they seem to be very well-regarded... the only concern I'd have is that their classes would be tailored towards using their make-up (but I guess that doesn't make a huge difference!).

Will give them a buzz and see if they offer something that would fit the bill.

OK - rang them up and the options seem to be:

    - One-to-one make-up tutorial with a MUA for an hour and a half (€95)
    - One day class tutorial for around 5 hours (€99)

€95 for an hour and a half seems a wee bit steep to me, but I've know idea what the going rate should be. The benefit, of course, is that it's personalised and can be booked at any stage... rather than having to find a class date that suits.

What do people thing? Is the one-to-one worth it? I guess it's not much more expensive than a haircut and colour, but at least this way you learn something in the process!!
