Have posted similar in Cons Grazon thread.
Forget from licking rushes last year what I used!:(....got good enough kill, was travelling slow and went both ways.Have around 10 acres ready to do...were cleaned off around 2 months ago so are around perfect height to do effectively hopefully.
Overall from memory MCPA and Mortone both work well in licker but MCPA kill lasts longer. Do people find is that the case?...Used Roundup in past but found that while it got great kill it was too severe on ground where butt of rush was.
Pricewise how do MCPA and Mortone compare?,
thanks for other 'rush owners' views on best way to tackle young rushes by licking them...and strength of mix they use.

I think both are the same. Just remember to use a sticker/activator

Mcpa is best. I used it last week in the licker. Rushes orange already. Of course da fine weather helps greatly. I use the activator too but dont c any difference in using it r not. Wat ratio do u use in the licker as a matter of interest?

But what ever poison u use or way u do u it u HAVE TO HAVE TO top the rushes a month l8r. Topping and spraying go hand in hand together. Top two months b4 licking → feed the grass bare off the field → spray or lick the rushes→top the dead rushes a month later. I have figured that it will take 3 years of this to properly kill off a full field of rushes.

I've found after licking, leaving the dead rushes to rot away Into the ground is better than topping them. I topped rushes after licking once and they came back just as strong again.

U may have topped them too fast. Its all a fine balance because u have to let time for the poison to transfer from stem to root. Once all the rush is orange its time to top cos all the poison is now in the root. If u dont top especially after licking then the odd stem that does not have poison in it and is green it will be a strong stem and act as a life line for the rush.
